New Tuff Wheel

OEM adapters have become quite pricey. Even repros.

There was a high demand for them for a long time and when they finally got made, they were more expensive than an original.

The original is about 4 inches deep.

That one looks much more shallow.

How is the wheel position?

That's not an OEM tuff wheel.

the adapter is totally different
Correct I have some other parts that are not OEM it looks good in my opinion and it's more comfortable to drive that's all that matters I drive mine quite a bit.

I use these, not O.E. but I don't care.. Works great. Grant 4000

It's great I can't believe how much more I have from chest to wheel and especially my left elbow isn't bent so much when driving it was a very uncomfortable way to drive.

The ebay link says not compatible with a 72-73 Charger. That is the correct link? thanks

It's a Grant adaptor I was going to buy the real adaptor but I wanted to see how this fit I was pleasantly surprised with how it fit so I'll leave it the way it is. I know it's on OEM but other things on my car are not OEM either.
Doug, i hear without the correct adapter it puts it super close to turn signal switch when making turns.. can you verify this? i thought of getting the grant one as well and just add the correct adapter later if i can find one . i wont a different steering wheel... not a huge fan of this one

It works for me no issues with turn signal switch .

Can I spend more of your hard earned cash? Nupar makes custom center caps.... Lots of cool cap designs or something from your imagination...

I’d like a GTX or RR version of this horn button for my tuff wheel but can’t find a website or anything listing or showing options. All I find is old posts in forums from 2016 when they first introduced this horn button but only aluminum or cuda versions.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

I don't know if they are still available or not, I know Mick got a divorce... Try emailing him...

I’ve been talking to Mike from NuPar. Thanks for getting me his contact info 1Wild R/T.
We are working on a design for the 72 RR GTX and just finished the design for a second button which is for my 68’ GTX resto mod build. I’m really excited about these details and the one for the 68’ looks killer! Stay tuned

I decided to purchase a PG Classic leather wrapped reproduction Tuff steering wheel last week. I figured I could try it out in the 72' RR GTX which has an original tuff wheel with worn foam.
If I don't like it in that car it's perfect for my 68' rest-mod car.

I actually received it extremely quickly which is not something I'm used to in these ridiculous times. That was pretty awesome!

It is definitely very nice and the leather is obviously the give away that it's not original but the one thing that is also different which I'm not sure I'm too crazy about is the metal finish.
It looks like it was polished and then brushed opposed to the original Mopar wheel which is a satin metal.
Oh, and the threads for the horn screws are metric. I know everything is made in China these days but come on....It's a steering wheel for an American muscle car.

It's certainly not a deal breaker as this car is not matching numbers but I would still love to have the original steering wheel that the car came with back in it at some point.

That leads me to my curiosity on how to make that happen. The original wheel was the loose foam issue which I can inject with glue but it also is missing a few chunks where it meets the spokes. That is the part I don't know what to do with. Is there someone that can restore the foam grip? If not I suppose I could alway have it leather wrapped so I have a hybrid version that is the correct Mopar part number for the spoked portion and resembles a reproduction leather wheel for the grip.

Here are some pictures of both steering wheels for comparison which might help someone considering buying one or someone wanting to see exactly what an original Tuff wheel looks like.

My wheel came from Roseville & had the same "Brushed" appearance, I spent a few hours with various grades of sand paper working my way from 120 up through 1000 grit to get the finish how I wanted it.... And I re-drilled & tapped the holes with an SAE tap.... PITA but I wanted it how I wanted it..... There was a guy wrapping original Tuff Wheels but when the new repo wheels showed up for less than he was charging he folded his shop.... Can't blame him hand stitching leather covers ain't something I'd want to compete with China on...

How does your wheel look after the sanding? I might do the same if you got the results.
Yeah, I'm going to retap to SAE as well. I'm not going to start swapping in random hardware.

That's a sad story about the leather warp business getting crushed my the wold manufacturing Company (China)
I may still look for someone to wrap my original wheel.
