I would post on every B,E,C,A site that he is a scammer if he will not reply. PM him and tell him that.
Read 1967 Coronets response below yours before you call someone a scammer.

Yep but if you wont send me my check back them I would drag your name all over the sites. 50 CENT STAMP AND DONE AND MY NAME IS GOOD.

Well, if you guys don’t know him by now, then I don’t know where you’ve been. He is a rock solid guy, he knows a boat load about Mopars, and is straight up. He’s not a nut job, he’s helped out 100’s of folks through his Historical site. So, if he told you to pay him a certain way and you didn’t, that’s on you. If he says he will rip up the cashiers check, he will. If he requested that you pick it up at Carlisle, that’s what he wants. If you want the parts, and you try to arrange alternate details, then you should follow through with those details, and not change the details unless you clear it with a seller first. If he says the bank is too far for him to go, that’s because it is. He lives in Alaska!
he doesn't live in Alaska. He lives in PA. I admit to my mistake. If he tears up the check, I am out the money. He should do the right thing and send it back.

Reading through this takes me back to my ebay selling days several years ago.
Folks / buyers get excited when the see a part they have searched for. That leads to not reading the full terms the seller has listed in the add.
The seller only asks for 1/2 payment up front and wants it via postal money order.
Then the part would be brought to to Carlilse for pickup.
He did not want to ship and stated the form of payment he would except for the 1/2 down to hold the part until the swap meet.
Jmho, but there is no reason at all to be busting the sellers balls on this one.
He agreed to ship. He even gave me the shipping cost. I made a mistake about the cashiers check. I didn't realize that there was a difference to him. But, once it's explained to him that the funds are gone and can't be retrieved without the physical check, he should communicate his requirements to send it back. Anything short is kind of a shitty move.

Ord, this is the 1st you mentioned he offered to ship.
His add said he wants to avoid shipping.
You seem like a good guy also, But dragging this deal and the seller through a internet forum prob is not going to help get this resolved.
There is allways a way to work these deals out.
Mabey have a friend thats going to Carlilse pick up your part and send it to you. I would get back in touch with the seller after deleting this thread. If a bank check will not work for him perhaps it will work to hold the part until pickup at the swap meet.
You or a friend pay cash or postal money order in person.
I hope you guys can get this worked out.

If you look at my posts, I was merely asking if anyone knew him. I haven't really trashed him. I've shared some of what his response has been.

either way, I need the check back. He isn't willing, so far, to drive to the bank. He says that I've wasted 3 hours of his time and he won't waste anymore time on me. ....not even to put a stamp on an envelope. The 3 hours involved boxing the item, driving to the post office to get the shipping estimate and finally, the emails back and forth. If he didn't want to invest the time and energy to ship and get a shipping quote, perhaps he shouldn't have offered

If he would just agree to a plan, I would delete the post.
He is going to Carlisle next month. I'm betting that he will pass a bank along his route.
just a thought

He said he wanted a postal money order, undoubtably to go to the post office, which is undoubtably near his house. Instead you send a cashiers check, which makes him have to go to the bank. And yes, you’re wasting his time by not just following the details of the transaction. Why didn’t you just send him 1/2, and pick it up at Carlisle like his ad said? Changing the details of the ad, then changing the payment method without telling him, after he clearly asked for a postal money order, then starting a thread about it when things didn’t go exactly your way, and you’re defending all of that? Yes, I would send the check back, but after your direction as to the way this is going, I wouldn’t blame him to just tear it up and move on. It’s no good to him, not what he asked for, and nothing he should have to deal with. Sorry, it’s all on you, bud, like it or not.

Of course, I don’t want to see you out the money, but maybe you should go to the bank where you got the check and explain the details and ask for your money back and the check cancelled. Why does he have to do the legwork for your mistake?

There's always 2 sides to every story.

I am not defending. Read my posts. I've explained... The bank can't do a refund or stop payment....thats what several calls to different aspects of the bank have confirmed. I'm in Texas. Carlisle isn't a possibility. If they guy refuses to mail the check back, what would you do? Just eat the money and move on?

Nope, I would’ve either not responded to the ad at all because I’m not going to Carlisle, or I would’ve sent a postal money order like he asked. Did YOU ask him to ship it, or did he offer?

How to Handle a Lost Cashier’s Check.

  • Canceling a cashier’s check is more complex than canceling a personal bank check.
  • If you lose a cashier’s check you must notify the bank, fill out a declaration of lost form, and wait–it can take 90 days (after you file) to recoup the money.
  • The bank will levy a fee of $30 or more when you cancel a cashier’s check.
