Was hoping to re-use my u-bolts, they are fine except where the nuts where, the threads are kinda flattened and i don't wanna risk a issue, does anyone sell ubolts with the top of the U flattened or are they all just round now? ESPO's pics show theirs as round or i would just add to my order.
Also... is it possible to replace the 8 3/4 (741 case) pinion seal without removing the pumpkin or do you have to reset it all up like new if you do the seal?

BTW...my front hangers are fine other than 3 broken bolts, is there any reason to not drill out the broken bolts and tack weld some grade 8's in there as studs, should be like $10 instead of 60, plus i like to re-use what i can..

The bolts on the front hangers are press-fit, should be able to press them out.
I like the original look, but the bolts should work.
On the pinion seal, count the number of threads above the nut, and then mark a line on the pinion, the nut, and the yoke so you can put everything back to the same position (and pre-load) as before replacing the seal.

Might want to get one of these too.

Ahh forgot bout counting the threads :) Been a long time...

And on the 62 it used bolts not studs (i assume they switched cause they snap so easily) but yeah.. the hangers are fine.. ordering some 3/16X16 1.25" grade 8's and will just drill the hangers and stud em.. solved :)

741 and 742 you can just swap out the seal and retorque the pinion nut, amount of threads showing is a good check also. 489 with a crush sleeve is the tricky one.

Ahh! thank you, i wasn't sure which had the crush sleeve or if they all did.. that makes me feel better:)

I'm not sure of your car's power but, 3/16" bolts may not be strong enough! Te He.

I think 3/16 is the stock size (took a guess) but i will prolly end up with a 318 LA in the car :( Kinda want to find a machine shop to clean/cam bearing the poly.. but everytime i have dealt with shops in the detroit area they messed something up..

My last motor was a 400 in my challenger, machine shop put in the cam bearings without lining up the oiling holes to the top end.. I got lucky i checked it.. then they tried to say i spun the bearing putting the cam in....

I think grade 5 would be fine.
There are 4 of them and they only do 1/4 of the rear of the car.
I would install new bushings in the springs as well if you have everything apart.

Yup, getting new springs from ESPO with all new bushings.. just ordered new shocks also.. gas tank should be here in a few days.. gonna be nice under there

Trying to find a deal on shackles at the moment.. i see $13 ones which have to be made of tin foil... or 60 which seems high.. but i will end up buying once i talk myself into it.. hate spending money :)

I used to think shackles were no big deal, the cheaper the better. But I’ve experienced sheared off bolts, and if you do a search, you’ll find a lot of the same. The Hotchkis shackles were on sale a few weeks back for $89 and I bought a couple of sets.

Yeah, i saw those.. this thing will be less than 200hp.. will probably order the mancinis, will be plenty. Just annoyed mine came out of the frame like it was nothing but froze in the spring and had to cut them :( pissed me off :)

No need imo to count the threads on the pinion. The 41 and the 42 uses shims to set pinion depth and being there's no crush sleeve, you can torque it back up. I also like to use a dab of red Loc-tite for insurance. Grade 5 bolts should be fine unless they are from China.....I just don't trust anything from that country these days.

240lbs? holy cow... i thought it would be like 50.... guess i should open that shop manual sometime:)
Don't have anything that goes to 240 so I just get it as tight as I can and never had a problem.....and that's why I use the Loc-tite. If it's a 7/8" diameter thread (89 case is), it can take 240 and a LOT more. Don't remember what the size of the threads are on a 41 case is....3/4"?
