Hi I recently went to look at a few atvs and the guy asked if I wanted to see a old charger. 1966 charger hemi. I thought I would share as it’s not somthing you find in a garage everyday. Engine is unfortunately gone. He said he got the car this way after the engine was stolen. Unfortunately I didn’t take many pics. Underneath is great quarters are rusty.
Any idea on value? No idea if it’s for sale.

My friend has a 66 Hemi Charger roller too. The body is very good, it was a former drag car with some mid west racing heritage. We were talking about him restoring it back to as raced condition.

This one must have been raced or Atleast to the track a few times. has quite a few stickers on the other quarter window. Dragway 42 class winner , Pittsburg international raceway, Quaker city dragway, and a few others.

Just don't buy it thinking you can put a hemi in it, paint it and make anything.
But if you want to own a 66 Hemi Charger it might be a good start?

It costs 25 to 40 grand to build a second generation Hemi these days, don't ask me how I know, so after bodywork and paint Chrome, exhaust, transmission, interior etc, dosen't leave any room for profit! They are expensive and complex to restore compared to other B body cars and don't get much love when it's time to sell them.

But does every hobby have to be a profitable business?
Do you make money going on a trip to Hawaii?

No but it is nice to know that a car is atleast worth what you have in it,and in most cases, that means getting nothing for your time and labor. I have more in most of mine than they were worth before the current spike.

About 2 years ago there was a 66 hemi Coronet 440 on ebay, in similar condition.
Missing the original engine but had a non running 572 hemi with "issues".
Car looked stock except for engine. Quarters looked similar to OP car.

Starting bid IIRC was 20K and there were zero bidders.
I think they also lowered it to 19K.
Still no bites.

I was tempted to make an offer.

Bought our first 67 Charger 52 years ago still have it. Does it owe us anything, no. Have wonderful memories of using the car. If I cleaned the tank, checked fluids it would run and drive. I could easily part the car out and make quite a lot of money.
After that car we have had parts cars, drivers, cars for the strip. Each son has a nice driver, one very original, one modified. When this car is done, probably wouldn’t be able to sell it for what expense we have invested. But it hasn’t taken any money away from the quality of family life.
In the past I have bought and sold cars and made a profit.
This car has taken us to Charger Meets in Jefferson City Missouri, Farmington Minnesota, Detroit 50th and various other meets. Hope to get it finished. Also talked to the original owner in 2004.
I am sure I am redundant in some of this, and I apologize for that.
I think everyone should build their car for their own reason.

If you have an opportunity to buy a 66 auto Hemi Charger ex race car redone motor, solid car painted underneath, engine bay etc would it be worth 40,000.00 in your opinion considering the cost of not having to build the engine?

There is a title and I got the starting asking price of 10,000 it’s a bit rich for my blood I definitely wouldn’t have the money to put a hemi in it but it would still be a cool car to have.

10k is not horrible for a Hemi roller in the current market. You can always put a 383 or 440 in the car,and if a decent deal on a Hemi comes up,grab it.

If the interior is complete and not too horrible, 10k isn't bad... And it never needs to have a hemi again.. could make a nice street car out of that easily :)

I bought a Hemi short block, with the 69 k frame for 5k a few years ago. They come up every once in a while.

I have a friend with a 69 Hemi Roadrunner and he had to source an engine for it when he restored it. Turned out the block he found revealed a crack in the valley during dyno testing and had to be torn down and welded up in a lengthy process. With that added complication I think he was around $40k on the motor when done. Never asked if that included sourcing the 4 speed though.
