I bought a '77 440 out of a motorhome yesterday. Sat for many years beside some guys house but fired right up with a jump and a little squirt of fuel down the Thermoquad. Odo shows 36K miles. That's not the crazy thing. The crazy thing is this enormous aluminum A/C compressor. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Yes, on 60s Fords. My Dad had that compressor on his 64 TBird. Also, I have an aftermarket Frostemp A/C that was put on my 66 Coronet in 1970 with this compressor.

Add on a/c systems used them. With the type of hoses and fittings in the picture definitely an add on aftermarket install.

Looks like the one on my '76 F 250. Not the most massive compressor that I have seen.

From a add on a/c unit.

I used to install Mopar add-on systems in one of the dealerships I worked at and at that time (mid 70s) all the kits had the York style compressors. I still have a kit for a 74 C body I want to sell.

And the Mopar kits had the original style V2 compressor

Not really unusual. Stock on Fords and our cousin AMC's back in the day. They adapt well to onboard air compressors for the Jeep/off road crowd.

They work great. If you need an air compressor pump, they will make 300 psi.

Like others are saying, that was a REAL common compressor back in the day.
Hell, you could buy an aftermarket A/C kit from SEARS for your car featuring one of those...

None of the factory kits I installed had V2 compressors, all York. It was wild to cut the center of the dash out of a brand new B van to set in the evaporator unit.

The factory Mopar kits had the V2 and the aftermarket kits had the York. I own a 70 Swinger with dealer installed air with the factory Mopar Kit with the V2.

We installed 100's of them and just about every Mopar kit used a non OEM compressor not a rv2. These were the kits ordered direct from the Mopar parts department. If there were factory kits with the rv2 I do not remember them. All the kits had the window sticker in them.

None of them came with the factory a/c window tint. So, these cars are easy to spot even with the window sticker.
This was not meant to be directed to you. Was simply an easier way to state even though they have the Chrysler air temp window sticker don't let anyone lead you to believe they came from the factory with the a/c unit hanging under the dash.
