CDN72SE's Restoration Thread

YY1 just purchased the correct insert, guess I slapped the strat-o-vent in many years ago not caring that it was not correct.

Luckily we have had some hot weather here in my neck of the woods but not as constant as I would imagine FL to be.

Strat-o-vent is kinda an odd option.

Might be valuable.

Best "climate control" you could get on a Hemi or N96 car.

The correct part arrived today, just need to move the vents to the replacement piece.

Dropped off some window trim yesterday and picked up today, Marcel who has been in the business for 40+ years did a great job polishing these pieces.

These are some of the pieces; can't believe he got out all the marks from the wiper blades that would bang the trim.

Very nice! I still have to polish that large lower piece and dreading it!

Trim looks great!

When I was restoring my 68 cornet 25years ago there were no reproduction rocker mouldings available so had to try and find a set WITHOUT screw holes. Eventually found a set but had some bad curb rash. Old timer who restored cars and did trim restoration got them looking like brand new..absolutely amazing what some people are able to do!

Thanks Thrashingcows.

Agree, one could get so much down back in the day and would do a good job. Not many of the old-timers left around with the skills for many of these jobs.

Got the correct insert installed.

Got the dash installed, thank goodness, it's out of my basement now.

Thanks everyone, must give credit where credit is due.

Local upholster and glass installer dropped by the house to get it done, very happy with the results. He's coming back this weekend to do the glass.

He was really stretching that material, making sure everything is smooth and clean. I was a bit worried that the headliner would get dirty but all was good.

Nxcoupe I tip my hat to you and all others who attempt this themselves.

Vapor Barrier Install for the rear of the car; had my original as a template.

For the new vapor barrier I used the plastic sheet that my hood decal was shipped to me in. Basically the same thickness and feel.

Got the new piece cut out along with the water resistant tape and caulk.

Here's where it is going.

Here it is on, sheet tucked in at the bottom and taped.

Cleaned up the original rear glass, used Goo Gone, Dawn dish soap, and I had some leftover Eastwood glass polish that I used with a 3M green pad.

Wasn't too concerned with any little scratches, just wanted the previous butyl, clear silicone and other stuff I had used back in the day to stop leaks.

Turned out good enough.

Cleaned up the Rear of Fender Splash Shields, had some undercoat, paint and a bunch of other unidentified stuff stuck to them.

Nothing like installing original cleaned up parts back on.

Sprayed with some SEM black. Also used some reproduction screws with correct markings.

Soaked the belts in some Dawn and Oxy clean, I went from bench to buckets years ago. I think I still have all the belts.

Used SEM black on the hard plastic parts as they used to be Gold.

We all know about the 5X7 drivers side speaker hole and the 6x9 rear defogger/speaker hole on the passenger side.

I just went ahead and ordered a set of 6x9's and used the spacers that came with the speakers so they sat flush.
