Launch Video

Got back out there today.
1. New adjustable front shocks.
2. Back shocks tightened up.
3. 29 inch slicks replaced thw worn out 28’s
I know you are supposed to change 1 thing at a time, but there’s only so much time.
So it worked out pretty good. Car hooked well and handled well.
Consistency came back and I made a couple passes close to my best.
Cutting a light was a challenge and I had a couple ref lights in test and tune, so I cut down my launch rpm a little .
Cut 1 .500 light. I knew that was too close.
Round 2 eliminator I went out .499 red.
Making progress
Ouch.

I had nobody to take video though
That's been my problem
I personally think I take really good video of other guys stuff, cause I use a camcorder, not a damn phone. But I can't find anyone who can do a decent job of video-ing me.
That's why I complimented the guy who did yours.
(For what it's worth, when video-ing someone, I try to get the rear suspension close-up for tuning purposes, zoom in as the car goes down track so it doesn't disappear, then cover the scoreboards in both lanes. During elims, I try to get the dial-ins, before the race.)

I asked my best friend to shoot video of me at the track.
I got a very short video of him, saying he didn't know how to do this..lol.
He's gotten some others for me though.
I actually got a Samsung S22 Ultra for night shots/video and the S Pen can act as a remote to start recording.

My son was at the races with me yesterday and he took some video.
I think it looks better, still a little tire spin. The car is much more controllable now though.

I had a pretty good day. I’ve been trying to figure out why I flake out in eliminations and red light.

I entered No-Box and street.

I tried a little different technique on the tree that seemed to help.
I lost round 3 of no-box due to .622 (.500 tree) light. Hey it’ll take some practice.

I also went out 1st round in street with a .497 red. I bought back in and went on to win the final.

My lights seemed more consistent, but I got lucky on a few stinkers.

I think the problem now with the.497 is that I use a mechanical throttle stop the hold my starting line rpm. I hit it as soon as both stage lights come on.

When I am giving a 2-3 second head start the rpm’s creep up a little and reduces the cars RT and ET.

So now I am trying to delay when I hit that stop, but then that screws with my RT.

But I got away with it today

Actually not to bad for a stick car. They like a little spin. I'd try tightening the rebound and see what happens.

I’m thinking it’s because the super stock springs are so short in the front.
Back when I got them you had to install a longer front hanger, 2” I think.
I have to decide what to do with it this winter.
One route is to get longer Caltrac split monos, and move them in, which I need to do anyway.
Otherwise I’m thinking ladder bars.

It was all Mopars in the win circle Sunday at Magnolia. (They put up the wrong picture of my car. I raced the same guy in the quarter final, he was double entered.)

Nice job!
There were some Calvert B body mono leafs at Summit in the return/sale section a while back they might still be there.
So how do you like the clutch tamer ? I have a street clutch in my car now and it bites hard and I was wondering how well they worked.

I had very similar rear body lift with my stock 62 springs (727 tho). When I went to 456/457 ss springs, that lift was cut down a bunch. I'm pretty sure my shocks were topping out with the stock springs, but my shocks were garbage anyway.

Thanks Gus,
The clutch tamer works well. Adjustment is still pretty mysterious to me. The instructions don’t help a lot, but I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree.
I think a lot of it has to do with the geometry of how it’s mounted to your pedal. On mine the outer dial is almost completely out of adjustment, so I think l should reposition the whole thing. But I have a homemade z-bar, and I don’t think the geometry is ideal.
I think the longer I use it the more I like it. I wouldn’t go back to racing this car without it or something similar.

Call or contact Grant, the owner inventor. I'm sure he would offer advice. He's also @weedburner on this forum.
I'll be happy when I can make the time for a track day. I've had the hydraulic based HitMaster in my car at least 2 years and have yet to try it.

That would drive me nuts, get out there guy!

It has, it is, I am:realcrazy: and not happy, but I am adjusting my thinking to do more for myself, because what I've been doing for years is very unfulfilling and too often unappreciated. Oh, and I generally like my work and my customers appreciate me, so conclusions can be easily drawn.
Thanks

I just watched your launch videos. Brings back memories. Those launches drove me crazy. With the Cal Tracs, split monos and QA1 dble adjustable I finally got some 1.38 60’s but with inconsistently.
I went to ladder bars and those problems vanished.
I’m sure you’ve had lots of good advise now, I didn’t read all of the comments but I’ll throw my 2 cents in.
- need good good rear shocks. My QA1’s were not up to the task, needed re-valving, off the shelf they would slam open even set at full rebound.
- add some rebound to the front shocks. It’ll settle the rear down to help you get out further. Maybe keep you hooked.
- negative pinion angle and make sure your rear perches haven’t crushed. They must be boxed. When they flatten and the diff starts rocking everything gets worse.

I’m happy with my ladder bars but I’ve since seen b bodies with cal tracs, split monos and good Afco shocks hooking hard and hitting 1.30 60’s.
Pic for dreadfull memory of never knowing what’s gonna happen on launch. Rear leafs stretched right out. Yanking rear tires off the track as the front drops.
