Dang sinus is hammering me today so been inside and hearing all these planes flying so I just turned up the TV more lol. Then about 15 minutes ago I walked out the door and here comes a B52! Don't see those around here much unless there's going to be an air show and even then, there's usually not one to be seen. It came from the south and made a westerly turn an poured on some juice half way into the turn. Looked to have full flaps and landing gear was down. Man, those things are cool to see in the air but kinda hoped to see it make another pass. And yup, Wings over Houston this weekend.

your being invaded by Brandon's boys :poke:

air show close ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

we have a lot of planes flying over, usually smaller planes
mostly fire-watch, Fish & game, Sheriffs dept. & CalFire
quite a few choppers, white/red (CalFire)
very few Military planes
every so often we have some military helicopters
I 'assume' Reserves/Gaurd training, probably from way down in the valley
a few fixed-wing planes/jets doing high-speed maneuvers
usually 'way up high'

we get buzzed every so often too

Yup....Ellington Field.....might be 5 miles to the SW by the way the crow flies. There's a local airport to the east of me that's about 6-7 miles that keeps one of the life flight choppers so I see that flying quite often too. See lots of stuff that's out of the norm. The AWACS planes used to fly in and out of Ellington quite often but haven't seen any lately and haven't seen a guppy flying in awhile either.

WE have a lil' Airport down in Columbia
25-ish mile down the mountain
that has military in & out (mostly vintage stuff) every so often
some newer stuff occasionally too (especially when there are fires)
& a few airshows/cars shows too
Lots of CalFire & County/State related stuff/Aircraft

The VOR tower is right behind me on the Ocklocknee river and all the air traffic coming in from the north and west (High and low altitude ) either coming to TLH or headed to south florida come right over me everyday / all day and night. Planes coming from south Florida headed north or west make the turn overhead at altitude. We do get a lot of military planes from Eglin AFB coming here to refuel.

Our warehouse is about 500 yards dead nut straight north of the big main runway for McChord Air Force base here in Lakewood.

Over the past 17 years, I have seen virtually every aircraft from every branch of the military either coming up off the runway or coming in for a landing. Yakima is just over the mountains to the east from us, so anything and everything has been up'n'down off that runway at one time or another.

When the C-17's are going, they are no more than MAYBE 150-200 feet above our roof. When the F-15's, F-16's, F-18's, F-22's, or the F-35's go over....our rafters shake pretty good!!!!!

I have even seen the NE Patriots team jet, numerous VERY pricy private jets, and planes and choppers from other countries coming and going......kinda makes you wonder just what the heck are they doing here....

:realcrazy:

My barracks in the military was 90 degrees off the end of the runway at Hahn AFB base in Germany and downhill to where my room was level with it....3rd floor. Saw lots of stuff but F4's mainly. They didn't fly during the day but after 5 (1700) they took to the sky. Lots of touch and goes and lots of touch and goes straight up! Was cool to watch at first but grew tired of the noise after seeing it for months on end. Got buzzed by one years ago where I live and man, loud and gone....quickly but at the time, F4's were prevelence. No noise coming but loud and gone once overhead. Surprised me that one did that in a residential area and hasn't happened since during an air show. Can only imagine what the guys had to deal with in Nam back then with just that let alone all the other 'stuff' I've heard about. Very few that I know have talked about it but my BIL was on a river boat and he doesn't mind talking about it but he's a war monger.....and his stories are pretty graphic.

A cousin of mine flew a BUFF into Dayton (from Barksdale)for an air show in the early 90’s. Tail gunner(Viet vet) was only crewmember as old as the plane.
Upon landing, they were told to go to Wright Pat for a refueling so they could immediately head back to Barksdale at conclusion of show on Sunday.
My cousin said that little jaunt over to Wright Pat cost more than my wages for the entire year!

I used to work construction projects on Eaker AFB (SAC) before it closed. One day there was a big crowd gathering down by the control tower so we meandered over there to see what was going on. We spotted the Base Civil Engineer and wandered over and asked him what was going on. He said one of our Senators was visiting and he wanted to see a low speed flyover of a B52. So they sent a plane and crew up and after bit it came idling over the apron at low altitude with gear and flaps down and the engines throttled back spewing out all sorts of black exhaust smoke, just so the jackass could snap a few photos. While watching this the BCE leaned over and in a low voice, remarked to us that this little stunt was costing the Government many tens of thousands of dollars. We had a lot of interesting experiences working on a SAC Base.
