Hard to believe the price difference

I am building a 493 bracket engine and have everything but the pistons. I went to order them today and it was shocking how Summit is so much higher. Same part numbers. Same pistons. Mancini for the win.

Edited the title to make everyone happy

Could be the new price on new pistons verses the old batch of pistons that are still around… Looks about right with todays inflation..

I ordered .040 over pistons. I just didn’t change it for the top picture. J was just getting a screen shot. My point was these are the same part numbers. What a difference in price though. I try to stick with the smaller suppliers when I can. Here lately Mancini has been beating the Summit and Jegs of the world for engine parts. Beating them to death actually

I asked because I see Jegs is all over on price per size as well. Maybe not apples to apples is all. Most suppliers get what they can (I know there are exceptions) but thats why diligent research is paramount, and blind loyalty is for fools lol.

I'd still rather buy from Summit Racing most the time
& free shipping, they price match too, call them
&
I have bought a ton of parts from Mancini Racing too,
from the past 30+ years ($30k+)
shipping it's pricey, from Clinton Township Mi. to rural Calif.
glacier slow at times too, weeks vs a couple of days
don't get me wrong
I still consider Mancini a great source, have some stuff
when you can't find it elsewhere...

I'd call Summit 1st

my Summit orders are usually here/at my doorstep in 2 days (maybe 3)
if it's in stock in Reno, Nv shipping hub, with no extra special shipping costs
I get notified regularly (now by e-mail, used to be a rep. call) if it is delayed
back ordered for any reasons

hands down
the best customer service of any larger parts co. I've 'ever' experienced
they never/ever had done me wrong, in well over $200k worth of parts,
since the 800# or by mail catalog days, in the late 70s early 80s
even when it was my fault, ordered the wrong part/s, they covered it
took care of it, made it right, sent me the correct parts in a timely manner

Summit is the best overall in my opinion. That doesn't mean that you should not shop around though - supplies go up and down, sometimes prices get updated timely and sometimes not. No big deal. Normal stuff.

I’ve been very pleased with service and pricing from Mancini in the last few years. I also like Summit but I find their on- line catalog and search feature marginal, and parts description and fit information very sparse to downright non-existent. They usually do ship fast.

I looked at several pistons on Summit recently and found major differences in prices for the different oversizes. I actually found piston and ring combinations for the same pistons at a lower price than pistons only.

I purchased ICON 9953 KTM pistons for our 440 in 2021. This was through a local supplier. Outside box showed the correct package. Rebuilder opened the package Dec 2022. It had nice Chev 383 pistons in the box. Local supplier sent them back. Got the correct ones a week later.
Original cost would have been close to 500.00 US. Best deal I could find.

Somebody bought 440 pistons, threw cheap Chevy pistons back in the box, and returned them for credit (thieves). And summit stuck em back on the shelf, then shipped them to you.

I live two states over from Mancini and have been really impressed with how fast they ship! Most of
their prices are right in line or better than alot of other vendors. Sometimes they ship free.

I know Summit price matches but when the small specialty guy is cheaper why not just buy it from them? They actually have knowledge about Mopar’s and what we need most of the time.

I don’t like your thread title.
Having a higher price on an item than a competitor is not ripping people off.
Shop around for goodness sake’s.

No, I did not get them from Summit. I got them from a local supplier here. Just wanted to say local supplier bought from UEM, there wasn’t any problem of return after 1.5 years. And Summit’s price is reasonable today. We don’t seem to have many UEM dealers in Canada.
What really kills us here is the cost of shipping to Canada. Most of the time I will purchase in Canada. I have had very good results with MRMoparts, Summit, And some others in the last 30+years. When you buy a 40.00 part and Year One charges 50.00 to ship it in a small package, I could probably have purchased the same thing from National Moparts for less, but I didn‘t know about them at the time.
Hope I didn’t hijack this.

For people overseas like me, Summit is terrific to deal with. Prompt, efficient, reasonable prices.
They will have shipping prices and a list of shippers[ that you can choose from ] so that the order can be completed promptly & shipped. How good is that? None of this waiting 2-3 days for a shipping quote.
I have had occasional incorrect or faulty shipped parts. Summit has trusted me & sent new parts at no cost, with no messing around with having to send parts back.
Contrast this to a small supplier I ordered V8 cam brgs from. One brg was missing. I had a hell of a time getting these bastards to send another box, all but called me a liar.

Unless.you do a full comparison of every part these vendors sell you can't tell for sure.
Some vendors will have a "loss leader" product that they sell at cost or very small margin, but then make the money back a small bit at a time on the other products you need or tend to buy at the same time e.g. the pistons are cheaper but then the rings are slightly more than other vendors.
To compare one product and come up with your assumption on Summit is bullshit.
