I raced quite a few of those big bore motocrossers, they were not a bike to take lightly. Lots of seat time required to be able to ride on fast without killing yourself.
I trail rode a PE 175 for years, not the fastest thing but tuff as hell and took all of the beatings it was given for many years. Probably the bike that I had the most fun on in a pit was my 86' CR125, fun bike that was super easy to throw around. My buddy's that I rode with both had KX125's back than, they were faster but could bite you in a heartbeat. By the late 80's my buddies where riding worked KX250's and those were just plain terrifying.
as an Army Veteran I can say that piece of equipment was my favorite. Nothing like the sound of brrrrrrrp when we were in theatre. I think these things scared most insurgents more then our Blackhawk's and Apache's.
