engine for my Durango..... scratch that, Dakota resurrection instead

found this on Craigslist, I called the guy and left a message...... if everything is what he claims, seems like a no brainer..... any thoughts?

Selling this 4.7L Dodge engine. VIN designation of ‘N’ should be the 8th digit of your VIN for this engine to be correct. This engine was a completely remanufactured unit from Jasper and I have the paperwork to prove it. The complete install HAS ONLY 12,000 miles on it. Besides having such low mileage this engine will come complete with all the ‘TIN’ already on it because many people do not realize that all of your existing TIN (Valve covers, Oil pan, etc.)has to be bolted to the remanufactured engine, plus your whole intake manifold and injection system. It’s NOT work for the novice. For the $2000 I want, This engine can be bought 100% complete and ready to drop in. Save your breath offering me le$$, it cost us well over $5,000 2-1/2 years ago to have this installed PLUS if you buy your own engine they want back a rebuildable core and I’m not concerned with that either.
NOTE**- NOTE**These 4.7 litre engines / motors are notorious for going bad and the junkyards know it, and want lots of money for engines that have 150K on them. The engine was produced from 1999 through 2013, BUT all the info I could find says that my 2002 uses the 16 tooth reluctor ring on the crankshaft. It will also have a THREE plug ECM on the right inner fender under the hood, and that should be compatible with all 1999 through 2003 engines. Which means that finding a GOOD engine is next to impossible. The 4.7L V8 came in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, the Dodge Ram 1500 series, Dakota, and Durango, Chrysler Aspen, and even the Mitsubishi Raider.
NOTE** It takes TWO trips here to buy this engine, first trip to hear it run and Pay 50% of the money for it and you can come back one week later to pick it up. The only way around this is to pay in full by wire or paypal, and I can have the engine ready when you get there. If you need the underhood wiring I normally save & sell that also.

Never have been much of a fan of the 4-7 engines. Seems that you either get a good one or not so good one and have to stay on top and I mean on top of oil changes and use the right oil. At least that's what I gathered by reading about them over the years.....

mine has 227K on it and runs silent......... uses a little oil and lets out a puff of smoke on warm start up

I'm keeping this vehicle, and know it will need an engine at some point....... there's a lot going on there for 2K

50% is my only beef......would rather go there and help him pull it out and take it home the same day lol but yeah, does sound like a deal other than that. How far away is he from you?

he's not too far, not sure whats up with the Dakota it is in........ I'm thinking front end hit...... I'd like to drag the whole thing home

I can appreciate the way you're thinking here Mark. Sounds like something I personally would do as well, except try to buy the entire truck as a spare for parts, not just the engine.
Get out ahead of it now IMO.

I used to start up engines on the floor.....usually put headers on them as 'outriggers' with a block of wood under the pan and a hoist hooked up to it with a light pull on it. That was back when they were easy to start up like that.....

if that was installed 2 years ago, it probably has new sensors, water pump, ect......that would be nice

I bet that alternator isn't 30 bucks like back in the day

I bought my 03 with bent valves because of a jumped timing chain. They are an interference engine. Luckily no damage to the pistons. Bought new, loaded, rebuilt heads and timing chains and guides. A little time consuming but doable. The 4.7 is also known for shooting rockers out from under the cam.
