Comp cams any good?

Get ready for a FLOOD of opinions! My 2-cents is I would look for a similar cam, but “split profile” with a little more lift/duration in the exhaust side. If you have 3.23 or smaller numerical gears, you’re looking in the right range

I can’t vouch for the cam specs being good, but I want to put this in before people start trashing them. Comp is reputable brand, yes they probably have the most cam failures, but you also have to consider they probably sell the most cams, so it seems they have a higher fail rate

Get ahold of Dwayne Porter on here and buy a cam from him per his recommendation. Just went through this on my last motor and dealt with him. His pricing was actually less than Summit, and he knows his stuff.

Along with selling the most, therefore the rates of possible failures,
We live in a time where the highest rates of " I want to be a mechanic too" people are crawling out from under their keyboards

Looks like you gotta wait to have them make it. I would get a hold of Oregon cams I see what they have to offer. I’m hearing a lot of good things about them and they can grind a cam what you want.

Avoid go with iskaderian owner occupied and straight shooters and their car guys comp is owned by a investment company and they are only about dollars and cents!

Nothing wrong with Comp Cams, but I won't take a chance on a flat tappet cam in anything these days. Get a roller and save yourself some grief.

Buy a cam made for the Mopar 903 lifter....just like the engineering dept specified. All the others are made for Chevies.

Also ask what core the cam is ground on....makes a difference too

My rule of thumb for street cams....find the one you want then buy the next smallest one. 90% of us order too big of a cam...usually more duration than is ideal.

And I never buy a shelf cam... Buy what you need not just what's in stock

You're going with a 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust too?
Yes and its 30 over. I have a 71-340 intake and edel 600 cfm carb. Going to roll the dice and buy the cam.

Maybe I just need to use the cam I have, its only has about 20 miles on it. No changing springs and push rods.

Agree with others avoid, again personal experience, went with Hughes all mopar, working well.
