My 440 with a street avenger always starts and stalls a couple of times after running for a few seconds. Seems like the carb bowls have emptied and need to be filled before it runs steady
Any ideas about what could be happenning?

Sounds like the choke is coming off too quickly to me.

What makes you think the carb bowls are empty ? Are you referring to the evaporation of the modern fuels in the carb bowls after sitting for an extended period of time ? Or, is there not enough fuel delivery to the carb ? When the symptom occurs, have you checked if there is fuel actually squirting in the venturi ?

I think the bowls are empty because after starting and running briely a couple of times it keeps running, making me think my mechanical fuel pump is filling the bowls. Just a guess.

Just check at the time the symptom occurs, the choke operation & if any fuel squirts in the venturi. If the bowl is empty as you think, there will be no fuel squirt.

I think you’re new to the hobby. correct?

If so, let me start with a basic question-Exactly how are you starting the car. Once it starts, what are you doing to keep it running. Are you feathering the throttle to keep it running?

Generally, if it starts, you should be able to keep it running by pumping the pedal. Are you doing that?

Before you start the car, open the hood, remove the air cleaner, pump the throttle. Do you you see gas coming from the squiter? You can see this from the drivers seat looking through the open hood gap.

Pump a couple times. Is there fuel squirting? Start the car. After it starts but starts to die, pump the throttle as must as needed to keep it running. Watch the squiter, is it pumping fuel.

Report back.

Will do

Problem solved. I bumped the timing back a notch and adjusted the air screws and after 2 pumps it starts and keeps running.
Thanx for all your advice
I have no idea what you just said.
