Has anyone had homeowners insurance cancelled?

Insurance companies have gone the way of airlines. They are poorly managed and consider their customers the enemy.

BTW both of my friends that had their homeowners insurance cancelled are going WITHOUT. They decided to take their chances since the homes are paid off.

State Farm SUCKS, but guess what ? Allstate, Progressive, GEICO, Liberty, blah, blah, are all the same. Institutional heist.
They all suck.

Insurance is a necessary evil in life. You lose without it....and you lose with it.

That is NOT a good idea.

I have lost track of all the people on my street that got new roofs for “hail.” Guy next door told off a contractor that didn’t want to play. Said he’d get one who would get it done. Guy caved as he got the job. I heard it plain as day from my garage.

Another guy kinda smugly sly bragged about getting his to me one day.

I’m pretty pissed about the whole deal. We all pay, and I’m the guy that before all this dropped about 800 bucks getting my roof tuned up not long after buying this house. The people I have used and will use told me they just back away from those shady deals, want no part of it. My insurance agent died and I was given to one that never bothered to even call me or communicate in any way. Just got a note from State Farm, so I switched to a friend that is with State Farm and that I had told I couldn’t use as long as my other guy was still around. Couldn’t switch when I had been done right always.

In my set up meeting to go over all my stuff, I laid out the bs I’d seen and said what my roofers told me. He said they are the best around and he hasn’t seen them involved with the bs claims that **** us all on premiums.

Last year my local small company Drake-Beemont doubled my homeowners, we had a bad hailstorm in the area. I did not have any damage. When I went looking for cheaper insurance could not find any, mainly because they would not insure my home for what Drake-Beemont did, they said it was worth more, so I had to buy $50,000 more coverage. Main reason I switched was if the insurance company had so many losses it had to double the rate in one year how solvent are they?

Insurance drone flyover? Nothing a 12 gauge can't fix.

And, if it happened to be a drone smuggling guns across the border, bonus windfall.

Cancelled, yes but not because of an issue or claim we had. Because the parent company isn't providing insurance in my state and a few neighboring states. Apparently too many high dollar claims due to tornado and derachio damage. In fact we were working on inspection information for the new company just a few min. ago.
We just went through this last spring.
Not canceled but our Insurance company was going to jack our rates.
The same reasons .
Called our agent and told him to put the 9 iron back in the bag and get to work.
 He did but we had to switch companies. Rate went up but not near as bad.

I've been shopping around and all other companies are at least 50% more. I'm getting the feeling that I'm on an older policy that pays better with lower premium. So the simple strategy would be to kick me out for a year or two and then come back with slightly lower rates than everyone else but still significantly higher than I am at today. We've been insured at the same company for 31 years and paid in about 52k and a 4K claim 29 years ago, with that in mind State farm is money ahead. Kicking me out now before I make a claim.

I'm still on the search though.

We built our home six years ago without a fireplace. Shortly after we moved in, I got a notice that I lied on my insurance policy application saying that I didn’t mention that I had a fireplace. The only penetrations through the roof are two bathroom vent stacks and an 4” exhaust for the ceiling hung gas heater in the garage.

This thread makes me wonder if they did a drive by or used a drone.

State farm has decided to not renew my policy because of non running vehicles and roof shingles.
Started working with a roofer and my agent said I could get a 30 extension, ok. " As for the rest of the items they need to be disposed of, removed from the property or placed under view from satellite".

Has anyone else heard of this?
State Farm is a good home owners for claims settlemnts, but I had them, one claim and got cancelled

The winner of the day!!! Going without insurance is a suckers bet, starting with someone getting hurt while just visiting you. Being a loyal customer means nothing, you can go from hero to zero in one claim and they know that. I haven't had a claim on a car in so many years that I actually can't remember having one, other than a few windshields. I go to dinner with my agent as a family and my insurances have doubled and I've been with them for over 45 years. How can that be, we're friends. All the problems with some of these states that are prone to massives claims is for real, we all pay for it...... I wonder if there's a way for them to know how many times we've run our foot through the floor of our cars and where we've been...................... That was a rhetorical question.

Having cars and stuff all over the place in plain view is your own business, well not anymore. It can invite people who sell s**t for 5 bucks on Craigslist. The game never ends and we were never meant to win.

We had a tornado 2 years ago that did a lot of damage including a little to our house. A number of people have had their insurance canceled in the process. One who lives close by had half of his roof lifted off the rafters and then drop back down. The insurance argued about the extent of necessary repairs and once finally repaired they dropped him. He had a heck of a time finding coverage and had to go with Progressive which would have been my last choice. I took somewhat of a beating with State Farm. It cost me $5,000 to clear 2 large trees that went down and most of 2 more Maples that were decapitated and ended up in our lake and had to be hauled out. SF said if they would have at least hit a fence or something they would have paid me for that. The rest of the damage was a pissing match between SF and my roofer and I finally just separated them and told the roofer to get after it and I would pay him and settle with State Farm myself. My roof is now so patched and damaged by hail and granular loss that it needs replacing but after two SF appraiser inspections it’s clear that they will only pitch in once it’s leaking on the interior. State Farm, when we used to work with our local agents used to give us good supports but now they don’t allow their agents to authorize repairs. It all has to go up the ladder.

First I’ve heard of the drone inspections. I’ll have to keep an eye ou5 for that.

I hear that story a lot. It's also funny to hear "I have had State Farm for years and not a problem. They haven't had a claim yet though. :BangHead: :BangHead:

I remember my dad telling me the story of how my grandfather paid protection to the Brooklyn mob to keep his store safe. He got what he paid a high price for, had no problems. Insurance is the modern day equivalent, and as my dad told me years ago, prudent people pay for it.

One of the major reasons I live in an economic backwater area is because the weak economy keeps insurance and taxes low.

I had 2 possible claims at separate times. I talked to my State Farm agent about.1 time we decided the deductible would as much as the claim I said don’t file. 2 roof leaking, I could not find cause I asked if he had someone that could look at it. He did and they said wind damage, state farm doesn’t cover wind damage to roof. I said don’t file claim. When policy was about to renew guess what mot renewing me because of 2 claims in 1 year. My agent got an *** chewing but had the nerve to ask if id come back after the dust settled on the 2 claims I told him not to file!
Anyway the daughter sells insurance now she got m a policy with Progressive, it’s quite a bit higher then previous policy but 1 got 2 claims on my record.

That is NOT a good idea.
It's a good idea, only if you can self-insure, as you have a large amount of money at your disposal, and can afford to do so. But who does, so we are all left to the mercy of them big ol insurance companies...cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I know a few that self insure that own theirs outright too
they have 'a lot' more money/capitol than me

(especially after paying off kids school loans, so they can have a good life
while I'm still here, see them enjoy it... I'm building it back up again)

I own all my stuff outright, too
no loans/mortgages on anything, cars trucks houses
just monthly stuff & taxes, emergencies, "freaken'' Ins. **** etc.
it's as much as property taxes now, if not more, in some cases

I freaken' hate paying Insurance of any type
but it's a needed burden

I'm just not wealthy enough, to take that chance
here in the Sierras, fire taking my ****, is my greatest fear
even with all the precautions I have taken

I hate insurance companies too, it's mandated
govt. legal extortion 'RACKET', like mafioso strongarming, donate to the right people
pay us now, so you can feel safe later, if something 'maybe' happens,
then probably get denied funds, after a claim IMHFO

I do have higher deductibles on everything to make it more palatable
especially since I never have had any claims

my dad seems to do that enough,
he has/had a claim every few years on his stuff, usually vehicles not my home

if it (my stuff) was wiped out, burn down, flooded
destroyed by earthquake (latter 2 not likely here, on granite/clay, at elevation)
I don't have enough to rebuild it, immediately combined
& pay for another place to live, to have my dog & father living there,
food elec. water heat, A/C, paying all the reg. monthly stuff still
including property taxes twice a year, on something that's gone, while rebuilding it...

I could still rebuild, I know how, that's the easy part
but it's take a whole lot longer, without the needed capitol
(probably cost more than my place is worth to rebuild, how I wanted it to be)
& I'd have to get a construction loan, that sort of defeats the purpose
so I can live a decent life, without the payments...
Years of getting to this point "of having all my **** paid for",
then needing to make payment, again & forced to have insurance & PMIs
don't even want to think about that ****

sort screwed if you do & screwed if you don't

They could be more solvent than they portray.....the directors just keep sucking out the profits to pay out to the "Names" - the people who actually bankroll the Insurance Companies at the top of the tree.

Back in the UK, I worked for Marks & Spencers at their Computer Centre. They didn't buy Insurance...they had enough capital to indemnify themselves....a very unique and fortunate position to be in. Of course they took all precautions as well to protect their assets.....unlike many who just leave caution to the wind.

We saw a few fire callouts at night, but nothing ever serious. Not bad considering the two facilities I worked between were numbers 3 & 5 on the anti-Jewish Hit-list for attacks. One building had bomb and missile deflection shields over the windows disguised as sunshades, roof access was card & code only to prevent helicopters dropping assailants in.....they were ultra paranoid. We had 5 x one-megawatt diesel generators on site, enough to power up us and the entire commercial estate we were part of, and then some.....and enough diesel stored under the massive carpark to last a couple of months at full capacity, plus off-site storage.

it's a huge Pyramid scheme for sure
