360 oil pan?

as intimidating as the engine is. the trans may as well be Chinese to me. hahahah. i dont understand **** about them. i dont know how they work i just know theyre there hahahah.

Not even joking.. transmission is easier once you do one... take it apart and check/replace stuff that's worn out.. put back together and check endplay/adjustments... I did my first one with just a exploded view... the book i have now is all step by step directions

That is a good book for reading and seeing interesting stuff on big inch exotics, but if you are on a budget you just need a book dealing with torque specifications and regular assembly procedures.
Ill be honest with you i though that is what that was. any recommendations on an assembly help book for a stroker 306/408

408 doesn't make it any different to put together... same as a 273 pretty much

Thank you. Yeah i was looking for something that would provide a step by step or instructions with torque spec/sequences clearance specs stuff like that. this is my first time attempting to build an engine so im pretty much only youtube certified at this time hahahah.

It's all just details.. get a book and read it a couple of times... there are things people miss.. like valve reliefs on the wrong sides, rear seal backwards... just tons of stuff. take your time and triple check everything.

if i dont loose my mind building the engine ill definitely give it a try hahahahah. i do want to beef up/refresh my little 904.

My first (and only) automatic rebuild in the mid 70's was a 727 and only because I cracked the case when trying to pull the neutral safety switch out of it. Had an older buddy come over with a stand for the transmission and tons of knowledge. I was amazed at how easy it was. Thing is, we didn't check pressures etc. Did check clearances and the like and it worked when installed.

BTW, i just looked at those heads, the springs are borderline strong enough for that cam, the seat pressure is fine, the open pressure is kind of weak for the cam.. will probably be ok but don't be spinning super high.. Also.. speedmaster sells the heads for like $150 less than jegs...
What should i be looking for spring wise

I'm not the guy to ask on that... don't want to steer you wrong. I am using the trick flow 1.46" springs which are 120# seat and 390# open which is pretty weak but just enough for my cam. which heads are you using? too lazy to read back :)

Just read back.. the cnc heads have hyd roller springs in them.. they are a little light also but "should" be fine... i say should cause i'm no expert and just know i would run them myself.

BTW.. that's a LA Roller block.. LA block with factory roller cam provision like a magnum.. can run a roller cam and oem lifters, very nice setup... i just bought a 85 block hoping it was roller but nope. They are not easy to find.
I have a call in to jegs right now. Waiting to hear back. Any idea why that lifter would be riding on the edge of the cam lobe like that?

put the front thrust plate on the block and the top timing gear... so the came is int he right spot.. betting you have it pushed too deep in the block right now.

Also check every lifter to make sure that bar isn't hitting that raised ridge... might need some grinding

Okay. Yeah it definitely seems like it's too deep. I did not know that was a thing though. Thank you so much. I'll check that out

Yeah I saw some videos where someone had to do that. Seems like it's fine for mine though. It's a tight fit but there dosent seem to be ant issues. Will that need the spider hold down thing? Will that still work with these lifters and 1.6 ratio Ricker arms?

It looks like all the lobes don't line up with the lifter bores.... only reason would be came not in all the way or too deep that i know of...

Also in the second pic is that a crack in the lifter bore? sure looks like one...
I said the same thing and freaked out last nigh. It was a peice of wire bristle in the lifter bore. The engine is right next to my wire wheel. I'm going to go through it with a fine toothed comb before I do anything else to make sure there's not more

No spider needed with those, the link bar keeps them from turning in the bores.

BTW.. are those Morel rollers? or?
No those are Howard's rollers. Came with the cam.

So when I put it in. I lubed the hell out of it an pushed it in as far as I could. Your saying it's highly possible that it's too far back in the journal. Is there anything that is supposed to be put on the back of it to keep it in line perfectly. Or does the oiling gear keep it pressed against the thrust plate. Because looking at the pictures it seems like moving it back towards the front would solve my issue
