Enclosed is a picture of the wire. It seems to be a ground and it is in the harness that contains the wires for the windshield wiper switch. I don’t see anywhere on the switch that looks like a tab broke off, but who knows?!
pnora, doesn't show it. It does show the same wire (black/white strip) for the light switch. but I don't see anything for the wiper switch. What does your wiring diagram show?
I was so focused on the wiper switch I didn't even look at the heater control! I'll get a chance to have a look maybe later today. Thanks a ton Nacho-RT74 for the help. The only 2 black wires with white trace arriving around there are for Heater/AC blower (14 gauge) or Headlights switch (12 gauge)
Heater/AC wire gets power with key in RUN or ACC
Headlights switch wire is constant.
But no one of them are with a separated plug/insulator.
Is some of these plugs melted and maybe installed divorced from the existant switch plug?
A/C control unit should get brown, tan, blue, light green and the mentioned black traced white.
Nacho mentioned it, C1-14BK*, keyed power supply for the blower motor or A/C control. Non-A/C, would plug directly into the blower switch terminal 4. With A/C, would plug into the under dash supplemental A/C wiring harness supplying power to the A/C control switch, blower and compressor.Enclosed is a picture of the wire. Looking at your picture again, doesn't look to be black with a white tracer, certainly not a 12 ga wire. Looks more like gray with black trace, 18 ga or smaller. If so, that would likely make it the tach signal wire (T11 20GY*). Where does it go to, if it’s the tach wire it should route to a gromet in the firewall in ’72.I was able to have a look at the heater/AC control unit tonight and I do see a black/white strip connected. So, that black/white remains a mystery!
Thanks much, I'm hoping to get back out in the shop to have a look tonight!Looking at your picture again, doesn't look to be black with a white tracer, certainly not a 12 ga wire. 72RR, I was able to have another look yesterday and I confirmed the tach wire (Gray White) is in place. The wire in question is definitely Black/White.Looking at your picture again, doesn't look to be black with a white tracer, certainly not a 12 ga wire. Vaanth, thanks for this. The car does have the tilt column! Another mystery solved on this car. Thanks again! If this Charger SE has tilt steering, the black with white tracer wire connected to the heater/air conditioning control now is likely C1-12BK* which originates at the steering column through an inline fuse. In this case, the C1-14BK* black with white tracer wire is unused and was originally supposed to be taped back in the harness. The tape back operation may have been missed, or it has been untaped and exposed over the years. This wiring can be seen in the following image:

This wiring is shown in Figure 20 on page 8-152 of the wiring diagrams in the 1972 Dodge Chassis Service Manual.

To verify that this is the unused C1-14BK* black with white tracer wire, with the battery disconnected, check for continuity between the loose terminal and the heater/air conditioner fuse at a the accessory bus bar in the fuse block.
