The Prince of Darkness won't be down for breakfast

I was always a fan of the music, but in the old days I was disgusted by his antics. Then came the TV show and we got to see him at home, being a husband and a Dad. Changed my opinion of him. The music is timeless. There were so many greats, but in my opinion no song captures the power of heavy metal like Children of the Grave. Crank that up on a real stereo with real speakers and experience real music.

RIP Ozzy , He and black sabbath turned out killer tunes.
Early 80s at Vets auditorium Des Moines my wife and I seen them live .
Heard about the bat deal but never knew if it happened during the show we were at.

If you take the time to actually listen to his masterful lyrics...

He never says he is a satanist.

He does sing about them, and other forms of evil as well as human suffering and "the human condition".

Several songs that are among other things-

Anti war
Anti alcoholism
Anti ****
Anti screwing people over

First "radio song"- 1970
Last radio song- 2023

Five decades.

Good run.

Yup, many of his songs (written by Geezer Butler, BTW) were pro Christianity. God is Dead is a good case in point. Methedemic is about drugs ruining our society. Snowblind is about cocaine, but doesn’t portray it positively. So many other greats.

What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me
Turn around quick, and start to run
Find out I'm the chosen one
Oh nooo!
Big black shape with eyes of fire
Telling people their desire
Satan's sitting there, he's smiling
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh no, no, please God help me!
Is it the end, my friend?
Satan's coming 'round the bend
People running 'cause they're scared
The people better go and beware!
No, no, please, no!

Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath.
One of my first records....playing now on my backyard speaker.

War Pigs and Crazy Train are absolute genius.

Many, many people have heard them and many know the words but how many truly understand what is being said?

The local classic station is non stop Ozzy right now. War Pigs at the moment.
Who was the last big name in Rock to check out?
I graduated in 1983 so a lot of these guys were at least 10-15 years older than me…most were born in the early 50s. Given their lifestyles, I’ll bet that during the next ten years we will see a lot of them pass on.

RIP Ozzy. You truly changed the world with your music - you may not have altered governments or ended wars, but your music reached billions of people and we'll never be the same again. Prayers for those you left behind.
