Spent most of the day helping my replacement put together a work schedule and transferring all my customer contact info to his phone so he doesn’t have to manually enter everything. We’ve been working together for the past few months so the transition should be pretty seamless. Next week I will be representing my employer at the Minnesota Trucking Association summer conference, traveling home on Thursday. Next Friday will be my first day of retirement. I’ve had a job of some kind since I was 12 years old so it’s going to be strange to wake up and have no sense of purpose other than to drive my wife crazy.

****’s about to get real…

Congratulations on crossing the finish line! No easy job exists having anything to do with trucks. When I hung it up three years ago, I got a lot of comments that I wouldn't be able to deal with the free time after all those decades of busting my hump. I had no problem whatsoever. Enjoy it, you've earned it.

Get ready for your full time job at home getting caught up on projects and sometimes sitting around watching clouds go by. It's well worth it.

Get a water sprinkler for your front yard. They are fun to watch from the porch. LOL

I have an irrigation system, but the MILF across the street likes to do yard work in spandex boy shorts and a tank top. Watching her will be better than watching a sprinkler any day of the week…

Congrats that you made the goal of retiring before expiring! I know too many guys that sadly didn’t make it. I’m about 3 months out, then it’s time to get all these projects done. Enjoy your retirement!

Congrats I guess, I dont think I could do it. I would go crazy sitting home. I have a friend who is retired and doesnt even know what day it is. And your wife will find plenty of work for you if you bother her enough.

I’ll have absolutely no shortage of things to do. Finish out my shop, 4 project cars, 3 project bikes. I question whether there will be enough time to get them all finished. Bottom line is your retirement is what you make of it.

Congratulations on your retirement.

I retired 8 months ago. There is always something to do at home or elsewhere.

Enjoy!

Been retired since 2007. Never a dull moment since as there is always something that needs attending to. So busy is the operative word. One benefit to retirement is that I am now getting better quality sleep and rest, which gives me a charge that was lacking in my working years. Plus, I can do whatever I want as there isn't a "Honey Do" in my life requiring me to attend to her before myself. Selfish, you say??? NOT!!! cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Congratulations! Wishing you a long, happy and healthy retirement. My window is just starting to crack open. 2-3 more years should set us up nicely. Working to get major home repairs/replacements (roof, pool, etc.) completed while the $ is still coming in.

Enjoy retirement I highly recommend it
you'll find plenty to keep busy
when I 1st retired I think I worked harder than when I wasn't...

I've learned to pace myself & do stuff on my own time now...
enjoy it

No need to need/have to do stuff on someone else's timeline or schedules...
freedom
go to bed when you want, instead of when you have too
get up when you want, instead of when you have too
no more punching a time clock (so to speak)

Congrats!

I'm thinking about going in 2026. I have to admit, I mentally struggle with the idea of living on a fixed income, and how much is enough. Would be easier if you knew when you'll kick the bucket.
