Just for you Chargervert, I couldn’t take the heat anymore, and the guilt was just too much, so I went and did a thing. Vintage Torque Thrust for the Roadrunner. They’re 15x6, but only have a 3” back space. I actually don’t think they’re gonna work, but they were a good deal so I bought em. It was a guilt ridden purchase, but seriously, if they don’t work, I’ll still be getting Torque Thrust for the Roadrunner so I can be just like my Daddy!

I had those as winter wheels and snow tires on my 2005 Magnum R/T. I dressed them up with a red pinstripe on the outer lip to look like Redlines.

I’m seriously thinking of restoring a set of Motor Wheel Spyders I have with some radials.

I’ve put 1,000 miles on it since April on these skinny bias plys.

Every car you see has them now. I was at the effing dealership in 1970 in person and saw with my own eyes that they were not equipped that way from factory at the Dodge dealer, only 4 door slant 6 Darts and pickup trucks had them

You know what they say about opinions................. I lived across the street from the Fenton plant and saw them coming out the door at the end of the final line by the hundreds with caps. From slant 6's to Hemi's, all day long.

I wonder what percentages of dog dishes vs full hubcaps vs Rallye or Road wheels and other options were from the factory? I look at old dealership pics and see a variety of wheels on new cars, full hubcaps seemed to be fairly common but you rarely see them on old Mopars today.

I was told there is no real known number. In those days you could order a car almost anyway you wanted. Most were bought with caps to save money up front and their choice of wheels were bought later. I had a 69 340 Dart, rubber floor, bench seat, 4 speed, and yes, it came with caps from the factory. I get some people may not like them, but give me a break............. It was a fact of life.

Thanks for all the old Mopar dealership pictures. They are great! The Argyle Dodge one is particularly interesting to me, since it is in Ontario. Cooksville is part of the sprawling GTA (Greater Toronto Area), and sponsored John Petrie in a 1965 Dodge Coronet A990 back in the day. 1965 B-bodies were never built in Canada, and were not actively sold up here.

I would think any dealer ordered cars for stock would like to have it more dressed up looking with Rallye's, Road wheels, stripes etc to sell quicker...

Besides A12 cars, the steelies and dog dish caps were probably more of the special order type of people that knew they were going to install aftermarket mags since that was the popular thing to do back in the day to personlize ones vehicle.

I agree with Chargervert. There are probably way more cars with steelies and dog dish caps today then there were new.

Damn, seeing beautifully-colored cars loaded on a trailer like that reminds me of gumballs in a gumball machine. What a time that must've been! I'm 58 so I missed that era by a bit. Nowadays, that trailer would be loaded with white, black and half-a-dozen shades of grey. Puke!

As far as now, trends change. Many cars came with full hubcaps and many more performance cars rolled on "dork dishes" alone. Most dealers will buy a stripped to middle of the road optioned car or truck and add on their own overpriced accessories. I knew a guy that owned one of the biggest Dodge, by numbers of units sold, dealerships in the country. He'd pay a few thousand to a shop down the road for accessories and add 5,000 for the upgrade. People bought into it because it didn't null and void the warranty if he did it. Whatever dealerships you went to in your town is one thing, I'm talking about a steady flow from a factory that fed the country. I can only speak for what I actually witnessed.

There are probably way more cars with steelies and dog dish caps today then there were new.

The same probably holds true for:
1) trunk deck lid spoilers,
2) various & sundry stripes/decals,
3) bright exhaust tips,
4) rear window louvers,
and
5) front spoilers; especially the boomerang ones on '71 & '72 Roadrunners.

Who knows, maybe even different stock outside mirrors.
