Good morning. I have a 69 Charger 500. Purchased it like 20 years ago. Just a shell, yes , rear window plug, no drive train, doors ,hood ect. Question is the radiator opening is 22 1/2"? I thought all 440 charger 500 got the big 26" radiator?

Usually a 26” was for a performance axle package, a/c or a max cool package. If your core support still has the numbers stamped in or your fender tag is stamped for then you will know for sure.

some bb cars had a 22 inch radiator, my Bee came with one from factory. .

Road runner here and axel package also called for bigger radiators in some applications. Stucat what axel and gear may I ask? Think automatic with 8 3/4

Most all did get the 26-incher, but yes, a 69 Charger 500 with limited options could come with a 22" radiator. I have only seen a couple, and they were 440 cars with almost no options, or as in the case of one of them..... ZERO options except the code for Charger 500.

Might have been a clone car maybe?
440 cars with an automatic came standard with the 8 3/4 rear, but all A12 cars came with the max cooling 26”radiator and the 4:10 Dana 60 regardless of transmission choice.
Yup... It was the axle not the trans that triggered max cooling...
3.23 or less gear without towing without A/C without HD/Max Cooling got a 22" radiator

Maybe a 70 then?

The A12 was 1969 1/2 year only option. But in 1970, yes, it was entirely possible to have a 6 pack or 6BBL car with an automatic and a 22” radiator.
Ok that’s where I musta seen it then. Thought it strange to have a 22 behind a 6pk
