The last time I filled up my car it started leaking gas out of the very bottom of the opening (see pic). I took out the sending unit hoping that maybe it was just a bad gasket but the gasket looks fine. There appears to be a leak in the bottom of the tank opening so not quite sure how to fix. Is this something that could be fixed with a gasket maker of some sort? I made sure the lock ring was tight and it still leaked. The gas tank was purchased new about 5 years ago. Anyone out there had this issue? I have read since posting that a lot of the manufactured lock rings are not as thick as the originals so maybe I need to start there?

Reproduction Senders and lock nuts have a reputation for not being up to standards. I ran into that same problem with the last one I bought a few years ago. The sender Ohmed out correctly but the lock nut was half the thickness of the old one. I was lucky enough to have saved my old one. i have heard that many of the senders are not correct either. It is sad that anyone would even tool up to make something that is a complete failure right out of the gate.

I had the same thing happen with a new aluminum tank from a custom fuel tank shop. The metal thickness at that location on mine was too thin and wouldn't seal and leaked like crazy with the motor running. I was not aware of thick lock rings and out of frustration instead swapped the tank for a new Spectra tank and it's been eak free. However, it doesn't have the internal baffling I wanted...

@HALIFAXHOPS sells thick lock rings.
I’ve also noticed that my sending unit cannot be adjusted any more and the way it is when I fill
My car up it only goes to 1/2 full. So I believe it’s a crappy reproduction.

So additional question. There’s not any more adjustment on the sending unit. It only reads half full when it’s completely full. Is this just a crappy unit?

Don't believe that sender will ever read correctly. Some are saying or having good luck with senders from Van's? Maybe something new is out. The replacements for the last few years are junk. As far as your leaking, had the same issue on 2 tanks, stainless tanks from Van's. I tried all of the supposedly easy sure fixes, thick gasket, thin gasket, thick lock ring, thin lock ring, orginal lock ring, no luck. The tanks opening wasn't truly flat. I am a home builder of an airplane, got tired of messing around and sealed it with an aircraft fuel tank sealer called Pro Seal. No more leaks. If for some reason I have to go back in, a heat gun Will soften it for removal. I don't ever expect to have to go in there again, well, hopefully!
