Mine had one that hooked together on the ends and one that didn't hook. The rebuild kit seems to have 2 non hooked ones for replacement.

As I know (based on my other question) that someone has it apart, what is correct (books don't show it clearly).

Thanks
Ross

No hooks

A real hacker was inside your trans. Keep asking questions so it will be right.

Thank you - swapped it out

When my brother bought it in 1979 for $45 the torque converter was shot Guessing the first owner was tough on transmissions and had a small town shop fix it. No one remembers my brother taking it apart and he would've put a shift kit in it if he did.

All major subassemblies are rebuilt Next up the valve body.

Thanks again.

A factory TF always has one with hooked ends and one butt ended ring. I think the engineers were trying to seal one side better than the other. The kits always come with 2 butt ended rings. I learned the hard way about replacing the governor rings on a warrantee 1971 Dodge and pulled that trans out twice.

So what do you use when rebuilding hooked end for 1 or butt end for both?

Any kits I ever purchased, including OEM kits, never gave a choice. Always butt ends. Always worked fine too.

Mike, while I have your expert attention...

What do you think about this throttle valve lever? It looks repaired but not much wiggle in the whole assembly do they make replacements? Would it be worth replacing?

Nevermind, I have a spare valve body and it's the same. Must be the way they made them.
