"Please S T O P saying this" thread.

I poured the cement driveway.
No, you didn't.
"Cement" and Concrete are not the same thing. Cement can be a noun or a verb. As a noun, it can be a bonding agent, a glue of sorts. Rubber Cement? In the most common use, it is:

If you poured cement, you poured glue.
No, you technically did not pour cement, you "placed" concrete.

"BCE"

It's NOT "Before Common Era"...it's BEFORE CHRIST. It has been, for over two thousand years.

(stopping myself before it gets political).

Lol lol. I work at a prefab concrete plant or is it a cement plant idk lol everyone there uses both terms and Noone knows which is right lol.. including me lol. The entire plant is confused. But we make some realy pretty concrete parking garages and cement beams lol

I see contractors with signs like.. Jose's Cement Work on the side of their truck doors. Jose may do great work but has yet to grasp the language to it's fullest.

Bc is before christ and bce is before common era. Put in place when the secular non believers demand political correctness. But common era ends when the year of our lord. Starts. (AD).

The irony no matter how hard you try to dismiss Christ he still proves he is alive

it took a bit longer for my concrete work to set this past week.
And my cement has a lot of clumps after sitting a couple of years, in the original bags. Some recent work.
An arch, and footings for a shed.

It is a sad thing when the people are so stubborn and stupid that saying it wrong is then accepted as the norm and dictionaries have to acknowledge that by making changes in new publications.
The wife edits books as a side gig and is constantly encountering terrible grammar mistakes and often butts heads with authors about what is correct and what isn't. Many authors seem to want to remain ignorant, claiming their readers want the authenticity of the slang and improper terms the characters use.

I agree.

Michelle (and TONS of other people) loves saying "a person that works for me", or "the customer that came in"....NO!!!!! It's "a person WHO" and "a customer WHO"!!!!!

THINGS-that
PEOPLE-WHO!!!

Anymore when she says it, I just mutter "who" and she glares at me. Oh well, at least it gives her a reason to glare lol

Uhhh, actually THAT is For all intents and purposes.

Escape goat

Correct version: “Scapegoat”
Again there’s a germ of sense in the incorrect version – after all, goats do have an unrivalled talent for escaping.
A scapegoat is one who is blamed or punished for the faults of others.

Taken for granite

Correct version: “Taken for granted”
It’s hard to understand why ‘taken for granite’ ever came to be used, but it did. Perhaps there was some notion that something that is carved in stone is accepted without question.

Here are a couple more...

Mute point

Correct version: “Moot point”
Once again an obscure word has been replaced by a more commonly used word. I’m not entirely sure what anyone might think ‘mute point’ might mean – perhaps a thing that isn’t talked about for some reason.

Prostrate cancer

Correct version: “Prostate cancer”
‘Prostate cancer’, the cancer of the prostate gland, is a disease predominantly of older men and might have a better claim than Alzheimer’s to be called Old Timer’s Disease. Also, it is a genuine real-world mistake that is seen frequently, even used by people who should know better.

My wife started saying escape goat.
But it was to piss off a particular prick boss that got visibly agitated by it but refused to correct her lol.
Now we say it out of "fond" memories :)

But not in a serious manner of course.

I actually switched TO using "escape goat".

The first time I heard that, and the person that said it thought it was correct, I fell over laughing.

Now I use it on purpose, because it's funny.

People do raise an eyebrow.

I've only heard one or two people used that term, but I just can't help it.

My ex saw a pic of Shirley and myself at a Christmas party.
Is that you and the skinny old chick she asked in a message.
Yes I said. OMG she replied, do not say I said that.
Too late I replied. Shirley is the SOG since that day almost 16 years ago. I stopped communicating with my ex.

I have noticed after watching a few you tube videos, that the narrative is simply made up for entertainment purposes.
This is for subjects I know a little bit about, which is motorcycles. Or the head lines are misleading. Lost leaders.
Even the pope is upset with AI generated falsehoods. He said so about one week ago.

Maybe in ten years many of us folks that were around in the fifties and sixties will be gone, and the modern folks can rewrite anything they wont.
