Have a winters shifter installed on my 70RR. Car is just going back together and ran into a problem I don’t remember having. The shifter linkage hits the trans cooler line and won’t allow it to go into third.

Car has a Cope full manual reverse valve body in it. I had a Cheeta Reverse VB before and don’t remember it being that close.

Anyone have this problem? Should I grind the linkage?

Picture is in second gear.

I recall my car when bought had one and it was notched by previous owner but after I restored the car I sold the shifter and hardware

I'd like to see a larger picture od th eentire set-up. As I remember this shifter a rear exit cable design and uses a bell crank to swap cable direction. Is this what you have? I believe we extended the line outside the bracket.

I'd re-route the cooler line.
My perspective is probably not right, but it looks like you'd have to grind away a lot of the shifter arm.
If that's correct, I wouldn't do it.
