Car Show Gripe/Rant

I used to question that, but changed my mind. I'm happy to see some new young blood get into the hobby. I have a new respect for those guys in newer LX cars participating in the hobby.

Other than awards in how was the show?

The cars were beautiful. Lots and lots of cars. Unfortunately the traffic was low as I don’t think it was well publicized and it was a low traffic location. Here was my favorite car. I didn’t care for the wheels but the car was really cool.

I just go for the on goings but I’ve seen where car clubs and friends vote for cars that in my opinion and other people’s opinion should never win any thing. They have lost a lot of cars to their once great show to a few meagar cars now as the same ppl are still running the show.

A buddy of mine won best in show in the original restored class. The car was a 73 Cuda with a 440 in it. Asked him if he was going to accept the trophy and he said sure.....

The only reason I used to register my Charger for car shows was to get a great parking spot.

Yep. One of the main reasons I only do "Car and Coffee" events (free).

Love those cars. I think those wheels were tasteful and not too tiny, like stock.

I'm just at a show to see the cars and talk with people.
Yes I try and get whichever one I'm taking to look really good, somewhat for the other owners who work hard to get trophies and for people who go to the show to see cool stuff.

But I never expect to win anything.
I can tell you just about everything that's not original or correct on either car.
They are the way I like them, they both run and drive really well.

But I'm never there to trophy hunt. Just to have fun and drive the car because I always say:

"It doesn't do you any good sitting in the garage."

I coordinate and run two local shows, both attract about 130-150 cars but are completely different. One is at my church with no registration, judging, or fees. Everyone can bring whatever car you want, stay as long as you want, pick up information on the church or not, grab some food from one of the food trucks, let your kiddos jump in the bounce house and just have a good time. This is easy, fun and no stress on me. The other is in a small town where we block off Mainstreet and helps raise money for a local food/clothing bank that also helps people find jobs. Local businesses make donations to sponsor the show, participants register and make a donation, we have specific parking and sponsor locations along Mainstreet, we give out top 10 plaques in no order or classes and the judge is a guy from out of town that no one knows and does classic car restorations for a living and turns out 100 pt cars. This show takes a lot of my time working with the town, sponsors, donation center, is very stressful and there are always unhappy people at the end of the day.

You should be appluaded for your efforts.
I like going to shows that are fundraisers for a good cause.
A sad commentary on our society when people can't appreciate the work of volunteers who try and run a fund raiser.
That's shameful behaviour on their part.

I don`t understand those going to shows simply to win a cheap plastic trophy, even worse when they didn`t do hardly any of the work on it, simply bought it new, already restored or paid a shop to do it. As for the show in question it all depends on the judging criteria - was there an actual judging process or just someone`s favorite? My cars are drivers not show winners so I go to meet people, talk cars, and check out other vehicles, if I get trophy it`s a bonus.

Ya, I like cruise nights and cars and coffee events as well, more relaxed and free. I do go to some select shows and most of them give the proceeds to good charities so I don`t mind an entrance fee but a lot of times I don`t bother to fill out and register my car to be eligible for trophies and many times I leave early anyway.

I can't go to car shows, I don't have any stuffed animals or knee socks. Just kidding. It's funny, when I was 18, I went to car shows religiously, and now, I just don't see the point or lack the interest, I guess. I do go to cruise ins or cars n coffee, just to be around other car people. Whenever judging is involved, it's like figure skating judging, completely subjective and someone is always going to be butt hurt afterwards with a bruised ego. I rarely if ever fill out my judging card at shows.

Or sitting at car shows every weekend day. The drive there and back are way more fun than sitting in a fold up chair looking at it. Once I`ve seen all the cars and talked to the people it`s usually time for me to leave and burn some gas and rubber.

Never have cared about winning a trophy at a show. If you don't go to a car show caring about trophies, it is a much more fun experience.

I used to go to a lot of car shows. Now I just go to some Mopar specific ones my club sponsors, and Moparty.
Other than that, just one all make show an over 55 community sponsors and donates all the proceeds to a local charity.
As I get older, being out in the sun on a hot day has gone from uncomfortable to now sometimes miserable.
Evening cruises are much more comfortable and I can leave when I want.
A friend of mine bought a pro street type Barracuda a few years ago and trailers it to shows all summer. He gets super excited about every trophy he gets even though he didn’t build the car.
My club had a Mopar show last June with participant judging. He didn’t win an award, and was ranting about it for months saying he’d never enter one of our clubs shows again.
I got a plaque for my car though. I left it on my workbench in my garage for weeks before I got motivated to try to hang it on my wall. I’m running out of room out there, and quite frankly all these plaques look pretty much the same.
I decided that next year I’m going to write Do not Judge on my dash card at any shows I attend. I do not want or need any more damn plaques!

I usually don't have the time but I usually make a couple of the local ones, gonna try to make Frankenmuth with the Cuda this coming summer, thats a big one.

I always make it an event to see my daughter. I register late, usually an 1/2 hour before registration closes. Which ends up being 11am - noon time frame. So I show up around 10:30 and meet my daughter at the show. Then we walk around and look at the cars and then go to lunch somewhere in her car and leave the car at the show. When we come back from lunch it’s usually about an hour until awards so we kick back in the lawn chairs and talk to people. Attend the ceremony and go home.
