Is Chrysler still going after clubs for using their trademarked Mopar name?

The issue was Chrysler was changing the Direct Connection brand name to Mopar Performance. The executives at the new Mopar Performance believed the word "Mopar" was being infringed upon freely.

It's sad they made an example of MoPerformance magazine. That poor guy was printing the publication out of his basement in Pennsylvania and trying to help the hobby while making a buck.

Anyhow, my club at the time 'Santa Cruz Mopar' was asked not to advertise, but we could keep the name. We continued on as usual and no legal issues ever came our way.

Paul and Mary Nagins, went by Plymouth Paul and Mopar Mary and even got crap over using those nick names.
Yes ! thanks, that's the ones, very cool people !
There were a lot of examples in the 80' & '90s where Chrysler sicked their lawyers on people/clubs/magazines, and aftermarket parts manufacturers. There were parts that vanished from the market until they ponied up the license fees to Chrysler; the Pentastar was a big example of that. It was not available for over a year IIRC. I used to subscribe to a magazine initially called "MoPerformance". They were sued and told to change the name, so they changed it to "MorePerfomance" but they still did not like that and since issues were printed and sent out, they were instructed ti recall ALL issues out there by a certain date or pay fines of $$$ and jail time. They sent a note out with the next issue explaining all of this, asking to return the previous copies. I kept the note and never returned ****. He finally changed the name to "Performance for the Chrysler Car Enthusiast".
Yep, see post #9. This is a great example of overkill perpetrated by Chrysler.

Isn't that what happened to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus? I thought Chrysler got a case of the *** over it and that's why the event and website is just The Nats now...

I wouldn't worry about it. That was 25 years ago. Look at how many people are using Mopar names on YouTube channels, etc.

Stelantis does not care. They are probably going to kill off Mopar in the next 5-10 years anyhow.

Am I doing something wrong?

No name or business, just a storage building.

Mopar to them.............

Those were dark times.

We will tease you with RWD concept cars.....and then not build them.

We will not offer reproduction parts.....and will sue you if you make them.

...and by the way, don't even think about using our name.....for your show that celebrates our brand.

Dark times, indeed.

It is hard for me to see where they can consider the name moperformance an infringement. Now if it was moparformence I could see it.

I don't have stickers or wear anything with car logos. Unless someone is helping me...I don't advertise. Everything costs too much, for free advertising.
I even put all my engine parts on the mill to remove logos.

I do the same on everything with logos, except on the sidewall of tires due to safety reasons.

Lawyers/Court/Judge said it was too close to "Mopar". If you want to fight it, you need to have deeper pockets than Chrysler!

Mopar is still a trademark of Stelantis/FCA.
