I'm currently updating the wiring harnesses in my Charger, so I figured I'd started here with the forward harness at the grille, rewiring all of the lamp sockets etc. While I was at it, I thought I may as well go ahead and swap out the original bucket motors for a single shaft design, and post it over here as well as the
66-67charger.com forum. I have most of the actual detailed info over on the 1st Gen forum, but I wanted to drop a little something here as well, since folks here were inquiring about this mod. I deleted the entire (3) relay system for the OEM motors, so I just have (1) relay now that runs the whole show. This did require a few changes to the forward harness, but it was no big deal since I had already planned on taking it apart anyway.
Anywho... Long story short, heres a quick video of the single motor, single shaft system in operation. Coincidently, the motor I chose to use here just happens to be the same one posted by RedBeard in the link above. It was the best choice given the other available options. As previously mentioned, the complete mod is detailed fairly well over on the 1st Gen forum. It's still a work in progress, but the main body of the work is posted there. Conveniently, the SS drive shafts more or less disappears behind the center ridge of the chrome grille, and the motor does a good job of hiding behind the grille medallion. Once everything gets painted black, it'll all be more or less invisible to anyone not deliberately looking for it.
