Hopefully someone can get me started in the right direction. I have a column shift 65 Belvedere and the gear selector works correctly going from park down to any gear. The issue is if I try and go back up. If I go from park to reverse I don’t have any issues but when I go from drive up to reverse the gears don’t line up correctly. I have the same problem if I drop down the first then try to manually shift back up to 2nd and drive. The transmission shifts correctly when in “drive”. Never had an issue shifting to park but that is a separate cable.

I looked through the service manual but just not understanding any better. I am sure there is just a cable adjustment or something but I don’t know if it’s on the column or in the transmission.

Any help is appreciated. I hope I explained it clear enough.

Where the cable goes into the transmission there is a adjuster wheel on it that has a bolt through it, you take that bolt out then you can turn it. BUT.. not sure how you do it without dropping the pan, on mine i drop the pan and make sure the detent lines up perfect in each gear. Someone will chime in with a way to do it with the pan on though.

When I purchased my 65 Coronet I removed the column and restored it to factory condition. The condition of the grease in there was deplorable. Is yours OK?

Jb, I don't want to hijack this thread, but kinda relates to this. Does anyone have the info on converting the '65 column shift to work with a manual shift-kit auto, like the original A990 autos had ? I'm considering this option on my build, instead of a floor mount, or 4 spd, Thanks...

Anyone with the "One Year Only " 1965 should watch this...

Watching it on YouTube it's divided into sections.
