Alright.. all scuffed down and ready for primer now.
A friend is doing it but not for free. It’s going to get driven. Just not a daily driver and not in bad weather. The bottom is getting a burnt orange paint. All the suspension pieces will be powder coated.This has to qualify as over the top quality for the bottom of a car, lol. Are you doing the bodywork yourself, or hiring it done? Beautiful work regardless, to the point I would be leery of driving it.
I had the same experience with my old 69 roadrunner…it looked beautiful until we started to remove paint and it was a really nice bondo sculpture. The crease with holes drilled in it was a new one to me but I guess it’s twofold, helps pull out the dent and gives the bondo a place to adhere. Once you’re there though, it’s cool to see it get done right and get it back on the road!Unfortunately, I have found that once you start digging into these old cars, you discover lots of things you didn't want to see.
When I bought my 70 Road Runner it was yellow - it had been changed from the original Limelight. Under the paint was a crease on the passenger side all the way from the front of the door through the quarter panel from someone hitting something. In typical fashion, holes were drilled every 1.5 inches and then the crease was "sort of" pulled out and then bondo did the rest. That cost me a door skin and quarter panel where otherwise the minimal rust could have been patched. In the end, my "minimal rust" California car ended up with 2 new door skins, 2 quarter panels, trunk floor, extensions, and more.
I am sorry to see all this damage, but the only way to address it is the way you are doing it. Make the proper repairs and move on. You will have a harder time that I did since replacement metal is hard to find for a 74.

74 is a completely different set up then 72. The brackets on mine for the fuel lines and ebrake cables were removed because they looked like ***. We are going to fab new ones when we get to that point.Dan, does the shock mount cross-member have the bracket to mount the fuel tank vent on it?
If so can you provide some pics and dimensions of that bracket?
I could use that info as I'm switching over to a 1972 gas tank in my 71. I have the 72 vent and will use it.
Currently I don't have the 1971 vent assembly that fits in the drivers side rear wheel well. I just ran 2 of the 4 lines up there and zip tied them in place - the other 2 lines I ran a fuel line from one to the other.
Do you guys ever use the powder for guide coat while blocking such as the one mirka makes? Works good when you get to finer grit papers

Black talcum powder. It works better than spray bombs when you get to finer grit sandpaper. I don’t have a container at my house to show you but I will try to think to snap a picture tomorrow. Didn’t even think to look online.I don’t think so. Whats It look like?
