Anyone looking for a `66 Charger project?

Yeah they ('66-'67's) had tachs no matter what engine or trans.
Would like that as a donor for my 4spd coversion, but $2500 is a little steep. It's going to need a lot of work and there isn't much out there for new parts.

There was an option for a console tach, that is very rare. I have a console mounted vacuum gauge that will look pretty cool when I get it on.

Way to solid to part out a one of less then 2,000 built Charger like this! Remember it's been in the Rustbelt for who knows how long! This thing looks almost mint in my eyes...LOL
I cruised through Ebays vintage parts for the first gen Chargers an was shocked how much I found that this car needs, some repopped trim sets, a bunch of headlight and grille parts and quite a few NOS parts that were pretty pricy. Bunch of dash related parts too. It doesn't need any more then patchwork for body and frame repair. If the "JUNKYARD DOG" was this solid when I got it I would have been done with it 2 years ago.

This is not correct.

On both the 66 and 67 Charger the dash tach was standard.

There was an option for the console mounted clock but no vacuum gauge was available in 1966.

The console mounted tach was an option on the Coronet 500. Although not shown in the Dodge Dealer Data book there was a vacuum gauge available in the same tach housing that was console mounted. It may have been a late year introduction. This may have also been available on the Charger in 1967.

Well, that depends on how you look at it. If you want to keep it and want a labor of love rather than something you can get you money out of then yes, it is too solid to part.

OTOH, if you look at what good original NICE 66-67 chargers as well as restored ones sell for anyone will be WAY better off and ahead to buy one of those.

These cars are VERY expensive to restore just like other 66-67 Mopar B bodies due to the lack of resto parts available and the good used parts command big money because people get "stuck" in a point of no return with these cars. You will likely find that offers on the car to buy as a complete project will be far less than what it will part out for.

You make some good points, but you can't forget that there are droves of us enthusiasts out there that love these cars and can't afford to buy a done one! Restoring one over several years is a different story and becomes doable for a giant number of us. Throw in the fact that this one is on the rare side and this could be someones affordable dream project!

This is all very true and the reason I started my last post with "If you want to keep it and want a labor of love rather than something you can get you money out of then yes, it is too solid to part."

More pics! Happy Memorial Day to all:eek:ccasion14:

that would make a sweet a$$ retro mod/nascar replica car... something akin of a late 60's high speed track car in my opinion...

That would be kool gremlinsteve!
Charger now has a front bumper that would be good for core bolted up and is included for the original asking price!

I'm shocked that there is not at least a little more interest in this car. Shoot me a reasonable offer.

You will likely have a better chance selling it on Ebay to someone that likes the body style but has not investigated them enough to know what the cost of restoring one is.

I've got to agree with 696pack. I have a '67 that needs complete resto/rebuild. The only reason I've held onto the car is sentimental reasons. The cost to build one is crazy. I like the car, but I'd never buy one again. I bought one off eBay for $1500. Ran, but needed alot more than what your car does. You might be able to part it out and make your money back.

I agree here. Listed it on ebay, you might actually get someone to buy. I almost bought a 66 a while back but asked about on this forum, and everyone informed me how much they were to restore so I started doing some digging and sure enough, way to rich for my blood.

I'd keep it before I parted it out. May go on Ebay, but I'll give it some more time. It's on a bunch of forums now along with Craigslist in a few cities. All of the door panels, headliner, visors, rear interior panels and back seats just need a good cleaning to be nice original driver quality. The metalwork could likely be done on this car with very little aftermarket sheetmetal and would go rather quickly. I'm thinking the potentially expensive parts would be the tail light lenses, the grill center section and the red console with the 4spd top plate. Maybe I should find a cheap running 383 off craigslist and put the fresh 4 spd I have here in it and offer it as a driver. If I did that I'd likely want to keep it, it would be a fun car to drive while you restore and seeing as how it doesn't need floors....

List it on Ebay and between that and the Craig's List and forum listings you will have your answer soon. Be prepared to end up keeping it if your complete price is too high. Also be prepared for people asking to buy parts off of it.

Have you done a search to see what nice, complete, running, driving cars are selling for?

Yes I have actually been looking for parts to fill in some of the what's missing and have been keeping an eye on what these are going for, kind of how I came up with my asking price. I think it's a fair price, just not allot of people looking for them right now. I have had a few inquireys and am waiting to hear from a guy in OK that pm'd me over at `66 & `67 Dodge Charger forums. I have only had it for a couple of weeks...
