Hey all. I am going to get 8" rear wheels (and 275/60/15 rubber) for rear of my 62 Dart and they are avail in 4" or 4.5" back space. Which should I go for?
Also, are Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T worth the extra $ over BF Goodrich radial T/A?

Probably get a better answer in the a-body forum. What kind of power are you putting out?

The 62 dart, that's a b-body.
My brother has a 62 belvedere and he runs the 4" backspacing 8"'wheels. Tires are 275s I think.

Actually the 63' and on Dart was an A body. Quite honestly in terms of performance for the dollar I think the BFGs are a better buy. If you are going for looks the MTs are pretty cool looking.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Power is a dual inline quad 413 with a MP mech cam, too much torque for the stock skinny rubber!

The M/Ts do look nicer than T/As I must agree, but as always, it comes down to $ (for as long as I'd like to stay married anyway).

I would have thought I'd be safer going 4.5" back space, does anybody know better?

That rear end was alittle shorter flange to flange then the rest of the 8 3/4's so you might get by with a 4 inch back space. But if you changed it out to a later year, then you should use the 4.5 inch back space, as those are gonna be wider than the stock 62.

What about running an 8" wheel on the front? Is it too big? What would be the best backspacing, 4 or 4.5?

Hey mate, thanks for the input. A friend suggested to go the 4.5" and if it's too much, I can fit a .5" spacer. Maybe a good option as it's impossible to go the other way...

BTW, I love your late hemi in 64 Polara thread - you are an inspiration!

I ain't no expert, but I'm pretty sure an 8" rim on front in any back space will rub at some point when turning.... I'd say that's why most stick to a 7" wheel. I will gladly stand corrected.

Thanks for the compliment. I run a 15x7 with 4 inch backspacing on the front, 15x8 with 4 inch backspacing on the rear. The rear tire (275/60/15) was so close to the outside wheel well I ended up narrowing the rear and inch on each side and it turned out perfect.
