Raising the Rear

Google: How to roll your fenders. If you only need 1/2" or so more room, you can roll the inner lip of your fenders up and make more room. Eastwood makes the tool and you can actually RENT it on ebay. If you need more than 1/2" or so you need wheels with more backspacing to move the wheel/tire in.

Nice car! I have a 74 also, but wheel/tire selection is a long ways off. I always liked the "Nose-Draggin, Tail-Waggin" look. Scientifically sound? No. Cool? Yes! I have seen some 17-18" Torque-thrust style wheels look very good on these cars.

Shes got big hips and I dont think it looks right sitting low. On this car anyways, any other year looks great sitting level. Just doesnt do it for me on the 73 and 74s lol. Thanks guys, Ive been looking at new rims, anyone know the correct back spacing on these things?

I wasn't saying to leave it low. I was saying that the 275 will fit at stock height with the correct B/S so lifted should pose no trouble at all.

I know you weren't. And honestly I know for a fact that you guys know way more than I do that's why I come here for your advice. You guys are a life saver to a college budget student. I put these wheels on it with no knowledge of the b/s, and I do particularly like it a little jacked up in the rear, but it by no means needs to sit as high as it currently does. But I would like to eliminate the air shocks, and retain some height with the ss springs, along with the correct b/s

I feel like a burden to you guys haha

I love the torqthrust style wheels on these cars! and they may very well find their way on my 97z28 as well!

I do appreciate the advice and I wouldnt think twice about doing it to my camaro, but I dont think I would do it to my mopar. Thank you though

I think it's funny that so many guys love 60s/70s cars but want them to sit as level and low as 90s+ cars. The last thing a guy in the 70s wanted was the level look. :) That's like wanting to have Farrah's swimsuit poster redone with her having a current hairstyle. The stance, like Farrah's hair, was what made these things memorable! Who's going to remember a level sitting sedan 40 years from now? Not many I suspect.

I like the rear stance of your car, but I would lover the front an inch or two to get more of the 70s look.

You shouldn't have a problem putting 275s under your Runner...My 74 RR has 275/60/15s on the back and 235/60/15s on the front. All tires are wearing American Racing 15 x 8 rims. Personally I'm not a big fan of step shackles, but it's all a matter of personal preference. I had the leaf springs re-arched and an additional leaf put in to give my car the "old school" stance. Even without the new springs, the 275s fit without a problem. The new springs gave me a lift of 2.5 inches over what the car initially was. The pics show the car with stock rims and tires, then with the new rubber and rims (as mentioned above) and then with the new leaf springs. Hope this helps.

Looks great with the 275 in the rear. You get an inch lift with just the tires. Love the color combination as well. Looks like chestnut metallic.

That's what a 73/74 Road Runner should look like rt_hawley! I sure wish someone around here redid leaf springs.
