First I am sorry for asking an a-body question but, this situation could be possible on any mopar regardless of engine size or body type. So here goes:

My 68 Barracuda fires right up but turning the key to the off position does not shut it down! What is the deal?

I have checked all the connection to the ignition and they seem fine...

Any ideas?

My guess is the ignition switch itself is bad. If you have a spare it's an easy check. just unplug one, plug in the other, and see what happens. Problem solved? Problem solved!

i had the same problem on my 74 Charger. i replaced the ignition switch and that did not help. I changed the starter relay switch and that fixed it.

Try running it with the alternator disconnected. It sounds to me like the ignition circuit is being backfed.

Yeah. Something is shorted somewhere. I'm guessing with the ignition off and the motor NOT running you'll still see voltage in the ignition circuit

Is it possible that your brown and blue wires at the start side of the ballast resistor are joined together? This would stack up with the idea from above about the alternator back-feeding the ignition circuit. Or some crossed/shorted wires in the loom? I can't see how a bad starter relay would prevent shut-down....only hinders start-up.

...oh, and please don't throw the used bunched knickers this way :hello2:
