thinking of going to headers in my 68 gtx, don't wanna spend money on tubes I gotta dent to make fit, don't want anything that rubs or fits poorly.
440 auto , may be a manual trans eventually, what have you guys had good experience with?

I would say go qith TTI's. They are more but fit well, and most importantly no leaking... However you will need a mini-starter for it. I have tried everything from summit to hedmans to Hookers and TTI's fit the best bar none.

Mike

I like my TTI's too. Buy from a vendor, not direct. Expensive. They DID require a tiny ding for the passenger side idler arm. 69 Coronet R/T. Got the coated ones they run 100 degrees cooler than others as measured by a laser temp gun. They have bee on for 10 years and slammed a few times at high speed compression. So far so good.

'70 GTX 440-4speed with Lakewood scattershield and mini starter, TTI headers 1-3/4" - no mods required, no leaks, fit like a glove :) Sound awesome :headbang:

I have 2" Hooker super comps on two cars and they fit OK for my standards. Headers always seem to need a ding here or there so I don't care about that. I have also used Hedman from the late 70's and those fit fine too. Never tried TTI but I hear good things about them.

Flowtech 1 7/8" on mine... ceramic coated, half the price of TTI, fit fine even with full size started although I changed to mini starter so I could change the starter without removing the headers.

I have to say after buying mine i think they are the best TTI Step headers are on my 66 Plymouth with a 440 & indy heads... :)

I have had hedman hooker and TTi

TTi are by far the best

I put TTIs on my 70 Road Runner with a 383. I think TTI is one of the only companies that makes different headers for RB vs. B blocks.

Bottom line: TTI headers are expensive, but they fit right on my car. No dents required (but a mini-starter was).

TTI 2" on 1969 Coronet R/T 440 block with power steering. No dings, dents, or hammering. If they don't fit return them for another set. Make sure your motor mounts and frame are in good shape or fitment will suffer accordingly.

Hookers (long tube) fit very poorly on my 68 Charger, major hammering to clear steering linkage, so I replaced them with Headman (long tube) and they fit very well with no hammering and with stock starter motor.

2" Doug's headers. Fit is real good, no dents. I will admit trying to fabricate/weld together 3" funky S-shaped header adapters from the reducer off the headers to the TTI exhaust pipes wasn't very fun...at all. I believe if you go with a TTI Exhaust system mating up to TTI headers, the fit up is much better. Never the less, the Doug's are very well built headers that fit in the engine bay well.

I have hooker competiotion on my 440 coronet. It is resting on the gear box, I will remove them soon! TTI on my hemi was awesome fit, and would get them again.

Hey Dennis

I am about to pull the trigger on headers, like TTI's reputation as well as all of the articles I have read. Yes, they are a chunk of $$, but I am ok paying for quality. I did just call TTI last week to talk about their product, and I got the rudest, most obnoxious, unhelpful person I have spoken to at any company in many years. I asked if he could tell me why I should go with their product rather than a Hooker Super Comp, or Doug's….his response? "Performance wise there is no difference between our 2" headers versus anyone else's." And then silence. I thought my cell had dropped the call. Nope. He was just not saying anything. I asked what he meant by his statement, and he helped me out by repeating it. Was about enough "customer service" for me. I have this unique outlook. I never beg people to take my money.

Not posting to complain about TTI, but was just curious as to why you said buy from a vendor, not direct? From what I can find, pricing is all the same. Am I missing a vendor that sells for less? Or is it that vendor customer service reps actually act like they want your money?

And yes, I understand one idiot on the phone does not necessarily represent the whole company. At least I hope it doesn't. But if it is just this one guy, his phone privileges should be revoked.

Thanks!

I use 2 inch hooker supercomps 5209 on my 68 charger 440 and I immediately regret it. Anything with the word hooker on it is going to give you trouble. But I dealt with them and got them to fit. I recently put some victor 440 heads on and the hookers seem to fit on them as well. They take a heck of a beating and some cutting but they work. If you want to save a few bucks and have the patience, give the hookers a chance.

I have headman long tube on my 1965 440 with power steering, floor shift auto, Flaming river steering column.
Only fitment issues were adding a shims to the passenger motor mount and that's common. No dinging, stock large starter.

I have the Schumaker Tri-ys on a 383, I bought them off someone locally so couldn't pass up the deal, otherwise I was going with TTI. The Tri-Ys installed from the top, the only thing I had to remove was the battery/tray for the passenger side and the #8 spark plug for the other side.
