So, I am thinking about going manual front disk brake conversion with a kit on the Coronet. There are a bunch of threads, but no one really said, how hard or easy it was, problems, and final results.

My options are

the PST kit

Summit Right Stuff, or Right Stuff itself

Pirate Jack

Speedway kit

Performance Online

Classic Industries and Year one also sells them

The Wilwood kit just seems more expensive, probably with the same stuff everyone uses

I know I can do the junk yard crawl, but why put used parts on my car. and I don't want to do the Scarebird mix and match thing.

Whats everyones experience?

I am installing a Pirate Jack kit right now on my Charger. So far everything is really nice. I went with their kit because it comes fairly complete and it uses Mopar replacement pads, rotors, etc. unlike other conversion kits.

I bought the Right Stuff Kit......Had issues with the booster being incorrect (found a bendix period correct one myself) and one of the spindal's in the kit I couldn't get the wheel bearings to clear, so they had to send a replacement. I will say their customer service was really good and the screw up with the booster was the salesman's miss-communication on my OEM set up. The parts look to be early-mid 70's A-Body rotors/spindals/pads/calipers. The adjustable proportioning valve looked like it came out of a gumball machine and was replaced with a wilwood combination proportioning valve.

Good luck.

I agree that Right stuff is junk. I installed the front and rear ln my 66. They sent the wrong parts first time around and once I did get the correct calipers they didn't fit worth crap. Their customer service is pretty good but their parts are cheap Chinese junk. Brake cables don't fit either, sent those back twice. Pads for the front were to thick so I had to mill those down just to get them installed. Kit was suppose to come with longer studs for the rear but I guess the parts packer that day had a hangover.

I spoke to the RAM MAN yesterday and am leaning toward going with the factory 11.75 units that were designed to be mounted to the rear. Car is the 68 R/T. He's AOT of fun to talk to also.

I'll be going power disc but he should be able to hook you up for manual as well.

I've heard nothing but good things about the RAM MAN too. It sounds as though he and Pirate Jacks are working together putting these kits together.

i looked up my invoice from Right Junk. i paid $730 to get the kit to my door. the chinese bearings wouldn't fit the chinese spindles so that took some time to refinish the spindles. the master cylinder was a 1 1/8" bore, not correct for manual brakes, plus the front brake line fittings were the wrong thread pitch. the calipers were 2.75" bore, not the correct 2.47" bore. it took me awhile to figure the caliper thing out but with the big bore calipers stopping power was horrible. eventually i swapped to the smaller bores and stopping power is somewhat better. so if you take the $730, plus another $100+ for a master cylinder, forget what i paid for smaller calipers, plus alignment costs, it's an expensive lesson. all Right Stuff does is stuff a bunch of mismatched parts in box and sell them; whether they work or not. at the same time a friend bought a Wilwood kit bolted it up and was happy, no spindle hoops to jump through. pick your poison i guess.

no one has mentioned the PST kit yet, no one used that yet?

i think if you look careful at some of these mopar kits you will start to notice a commonality of parts. most of these people are just packaging the same stuff in a different box. the devil is in the details! i don't think any of them are much of a value for the money spent. people want new/modern car brake performance in their old antiques. nobody stops to think about the untold millions of $$$ that the car companys have spent to come up with a coordinated safe brake system. and, we think we can do this for a few hundred bucks and 11" rotors,...lol? there's a reason these modern cars have 17", 18" and bigger wheels,...bigger brakes!

Are all the Dart spindles gone?????????????????

Donor cars to get disc brakes from -
73-76 A body
73 -74 B body
Also all the F/J/M bodies - Cordoba, Mirada, Aspen, Diplomat, Volare, 5th Avenue, Gran Fury ETC.
You've got to have some Do-It-Yerself yards in WA?

I used the Scarebird kit (go easy on me, lew, lol). Went right in and the price was right.
Scarebird is what I used. Their bracket and adapter are very well made, fit perfect. Good price. The parts needed ( if you decide to go that way) is very common to find and with my mechanics discount, low priced. They said I could use the single pot 64 Dodge master cylinder, but I opted for a two reservoir M.C..................MO

Here is my right stuff dealings, and before I bash them or their kit let me just say the decision to buy was mine, I just did not understand what I was buying. For example, the booster set up in the picture I thought the bracket assembly behind the booster went inside the car!? stupid me get the car back from the shop installing it and to my surprise there is this hideous booster contraption sticking way off my fire wall and almost touching my battery,
I could not believe it, then to have the installer tell me he had to weld up the bolts supporting it to the fire wall because he felt it was "flimsy"!! Now, here is my post, So when I called RSD they said that is how it is installed and they would send me a support plate for the back of the booster?!? wtf why was it not included in the kit? anyway I could tell they had gotten these calls before.

Also it took me a few minutes to wrap my head around all of it and in the end realizing I am putting a retro fit brake kit on a car that never had it. I just wish I had seen or talked to Prop before I bought the kit, and thanks to James at PST for helping out at least with info and at least PST has recognized this issue an is making it right with their customers.

So now I am stuck with a booster that has weld on it and scratches from the install (can't send it back for credit now) wouldn't even try. Going to use i on my buddy's A-Body cuda when wee do a 318 - 383 swap screw it, it's funny because he seems to end up with all this free stuff all he has to do is wait around for me to make mistakes on my build then gets the f'up parts lol bastard!

Anyway I am getting a new booster Like Prop has only from Summit Racing since I have an account there. Good luck to you on your conversion!
