First I have to say again how great this site is. My question is the proper/correct fluids/lubricants for my '66 hemi coronet 440 2dr hrd top with 3spd auto and limited slip, all original. Including correct fuel(leaded/octane?), motor, trans, diff oils & fluids. And sources for these. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure she gets the best of care. It's been just too many years ago for me to remember.
 
not being a wise *** ,but you own a hemi car and don't know what kind oil to put in it.
some might argue ,any thing with zinc in ,or use a zinc additive.
your going to receive many opinions.
the members here will steer you in the rite direction.
 
Reprints of the factory manuals are available so that's a good start. The above post referencing a quality motor oil is spot on. Just search for old car or vintage car motor oil with high levels of zinc and phos. I use good 'ol Texas oil - SWEPCO 15-40 fleet oil.

Oh, and sounds like a nice car you got there.

That Mopar desires love...... I have run Castrol GTX,Valvoline VR-1 10W-30,Royal Purple products are also good..... a good Dexron fluid will work fine for the transmission...AFT/3 or 4
 
Thanks Fellas for your replies. And GTX1a1, you're not a wise *** I know, but yea that was a kinda wise *** question. I grew up in a CPDJ dealership, small town, family owned. Dad was old school of course and our market catered to the four door, stationwagon, truck customers. And dad would occasionally order some muscle cars over the years. But not much up until about '67-'68 when Mopar muscle cars were selling like hot cakes. So even though I lived and worked there I seldom ever had the opportunity to do an oil change on or much less drive a Hemi car. There just weren't any around. And yes I know that the owner's manual listed several viscosity grades per expected driving temp range, etc., etc. But the motor oils we have these days are a lot different from those back then and so is ATF, etc., etc. And especially the fuels available now. So for all you guys who are in the Hemi know, you let me know. I'm here for two reasons; to learn and to read all about the cars I grew up with that so many folks still love, fix, rebuild, drive or race. I would like to add one more thing as well, I'll probably have a lot more dumb *** questions to ask in the future. But isn't that how we all learn? Thanks again fellas. And Meep-Meep she is a really nice car. 68-383GTS, that's exactly what flashes through my mind every time I pull the cover off of her in the garage, WOW! I can't believe your mine!

Hat's off to you, and your 'new' car. There is no such thing as a dumb question, so if you need to know, ask away. As far as the lubrication bit, I was being honest. 65 and I've used Valvoline all my driving life, it's never let me down. But, it's all really preferences, what you believe in, and if it will do the job for you. Everybody has their own opinion about such things.
You've got a great sounding machine there...enjoy.
 
Thanks Miller, Cuero is county seat of Dewitt County, west of Victoria about 30 miles, south central Texas, 60 miles inland, where it has forgotten how to rain anymore. I grew up and spent my whole working career in our family dealership so the only oil, lube, fluids I've ever used where Mopar. I am curious to hear from any of the Hemi guys/gals as to what octane fuel they like to use, for cruising not racing. I hate engine clatter!
