Power or manual steering?

Not the entire column, just the shaft. Mine had been beat on and so we just tapped the end until it was the right length. The shop that did the job got an adapter that welded on the end of the old coupler. Not my preference, but that is what they did. PM me and I'll find out where they got it.

clemul, that is to go from power steering to manual. He is going from manual to power.

He asked "Would there be a coupler to go from power column to manual box? "...the link i posted would allow that. To go from the shorter power steering column to the manual box he would need adapter or change out steering shaft to the longer manual one.

If he meant to ask " manual column to power steering", then no , adapter would not work. He would have to shorten or change out steering shaft.

I have manual steering a like it fine but I think I will like it even more when my new gear comes from Steer and Gear, mine is also a 4 speed

I won't run plastic oil pressure lines to my pressure gauge and I won't run power steering at the track.
Nascar doesn't run rubber lines to there power steering.

I want to limit oiling down the track.
This picture the car ran over his own oil.

Yes, I'm wanting to go to a "Firm Feel" manual box with the power column that came in my car.., thnx

A bud is going to swap me his manual box for my power, so I just need to get a coupler and maybe a pitman arm.

I have manual steering, if you can quick ratio is the way to go. I do notice it a bit stiffer now that car is a big block, and up here the law says I need front tires 70% of rear tire width on the street. On hot days driving under 10mph can be a work out with 23:1 ratio.

Originality and a woosy = power steering. Manual steering = Manly! If you are just a part time woosy, radials will help.

So is 24:1 the stock ratio? I see on the Firm/feel site> http://www.firmfeel.com/b_body_mopar_manual_steering_box_rebuild.html ... quick ratios are 20:1 & 16:1, and so your's is 23:1 and you can tell the difference? Also, is there some difference that the Firm/feel manual steering boxes have that make the car drive better than stock?., because I'm assuming the is no difference in their boxes and a fresh stock one other than their optional ratios. Am I right? If not plz explain.

Plastic oil pressure gauge line won't pass NHRA tech.

There is no such thing as a "firm feel" manual box. That nomenclature applied to P/S boxes only. If you are going from a power box to a manual box, you will have to lengthen the steering shaft because the box is shorter. steering shaft length.jpg

Yes the manual box is shorter and thats why I just bought this extenter from Mancini which I think is from Firm Feel ? As long as your steering coupler is ok as mine is in great shape then this just takes up the extra lenth needed on the shaft and worked fine for me. Ron

Flaming River also makes coupler adapters. I went to their site, did the research, then ordered through Jeg's. Mancini was out of stock on theirs. Flaming River was suggested to me by Stephen Daurity, son of former KOS racer Mike Daurity and it is what they use on their cars.

Swapped my bud for the manual box. I think I came out pretty good on that deal, since I see that Classic sells the power for $200 and the manual for $560. But it felt a little rough so I took it all apart and cleaned it for inspection. It all looked good inside, so I'm thinking maybe they may feel kinda rough when turning thru (by hand on the bench) even when they're good., or is that wishful thinking?
Anyway, putting all those needles back in should be fun!
