Generally speaking is the coupler something i should rebuild while the column is out of the car? It doesn't seem worn but im guessing it would have to be installed to really feel if there was any play. What about those aftermarket universal joints, are they a better choice?-------------thanks

You should be able to feel if it is worn enough to warrant a rebuild. If the coupler is worn, Steer & Gear sells new ones that are very nice. I put a new one on both my cars when they were apart.

pops so i took the coupler apart, the front seal was bad and it was full of crude. I dont really see much wear but i buy the rebuilding kit either way------thanks

Make sure that the pin in the shaft is good and not worn. I mean the pin that the little shoes go on inside the coupler as I have seen them wear. Ron

Get the rebuild kit and the new style seal that slides on the coupler and doesn't come off like the crimp style. Steer and gear has the kit and seal.
