Talking to Jamie Passon and getting the necessary info together to be put on the wait list..

Here's what he needs from me and I have a couple questions...

I need the following information.

year and type of car - EASY ENOUGH
engine - GOT THAT COVERED
bellhousing - HOW MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF BELLHOUSINGS ARE THERE AND HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ONE I HAVE? NUMBER OR LOCATION OF BOLTS?
if your shifter handle bolts on or presses in. - MY SHIFTER HANDLE HAS LOCK NUTS ON IT THAT I'VE HAD TO REPLACE TO I ASSUME BOLTS?

Thanks,

Thanks,

If you take your shifter handle out and it has two holes it is a bolt in. If it has one hole it is an original style press in.

10.5" flywheels (and corresponding bell-housing, if stock) have 130 teeth. I put a yellow crayon mark every 10 teeth as I rotated the engine around to help count them...

I am also on Jamie's waiting list, and hoping to get my transmission before I take my trip across country.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the help and advice!

Is there not just a cast number I can locate on the Bell Housing somewhere? It's gotten kinda cold to be messing around too much but if it's something simple I'm sure I can get to it quickly.

Took this little vid of the ol' girl idling herself to sleep for the winter... Like a Lullaby for me! lol

The number should be on the back where the trans bolts to.

Thanks,

If you haven't taken the shifter out yet the stock Hurst shifter mechanisms Ma used in these years are slip in. You remove the boot and free them by using two feeler gauges on either side of the handle to release the springs .. no bolts.

the regular aftermarket Hurst shifters were designed for the two bolts to hold them in as Hawk mentioned.

Thanks TH It's 2 bolts aftermarket hurst as mentioned. Supposed to go up to 7 here tomorrow so going to get under the car and grab that cast # Once that's done I'll get on ye olde wait list for ye olde 5 speed

I've been on jamies list since spring, he told me back then i'd be at least a year (I'm number 440). As for the bellhousing, I made the mistake of going from a 10.5" to a 11" bellhousing and it has caused me a few problems like header clearance and different inspection cover on the bottom of the tranny, not to mention different flywheel. I read you were getting a 522 stroker (which sounds awesome in the vid!) didn't see what your original engine was. Mine was a 383 which is why i had the 10.5" bellhousing, since I was upgrading the motor and everything, I thought I'd up the size as well.

yeah got on that list jan 22nd coming up on a year and the way it looks it will be at least fall before my number comes up I think.so to try and finish the challenger I bought a 18 spline 4-speed and will swap it out with the 5 speed when my turn comes. I went with a McLeod twin disk/flywheel package, quick time bell and hydraulic clutch, all fit real nice thx bruce

Mine was also a 383 Dan which is why I'm pretty sure mine is still the 10.5" (I didn't upgrade it at time of the swap and I'm damn sure it was 10.5 when I ordered a replacement disc)

Thanks Bruce, Sounds like a great setup when it all comes together. I haven't looked in on your thread in a while I need to do that! And I'm definitely in no rush would be nice to have some time to scrape funds together while I wait

Dropped my seat off last night to get re-sprung and foamed. Had 2 quotes from shops here that were recommended to me, bother were around $400 and would "get around to it eventually". One of my cruise night buddies had sent me a number for a guy he used so I called him yesterday... Old retired guy does really nice work so he told me to bring it by... so I stopped in and he just looked at it and said... "Oh you're a friend of Brian's... $100 and you can pick it up next week" SCORE!! That'll take one more item off this year's to-do's!

Score indeed Goon... $100 and a week turnaround from someone that knows how to do it... that's a great deal.

Nice score on the seat wrappage goon, and even better to hear about the passon plans! I've been thinking about one of those at some point after Frankenstein gets its hairdryer :thinker:

Here's my thoughts on the Passon Speedy... For a direct swap from an A833 wanting to make minimal mods and essentially just a bolt in it makes the most sense... Problem is as the waiting list is so long and their so scarce there won't be many used on the market for some time to come. If I was in your shoes and going from an Auto without fear of making the tunnel mods then I'd think more like 747 and look for a good used T56 or the like! You'll get it done a lot cheaper then you would be all in for the PASSON. The only other aspect of the Passon that appeals to me is that I can re-coup some of the money selling my A833

I wouldn't think you'd have a problem selling the 833 anyways, great trannies from my understanding. The waiting line just shows how strong the market is for a good overdrive thanks to our artificially inflated fuel prices. Curious to see what you do...................

Yeah I think you're spot on Goon, that Passon would be a great deal for you and I'm ok with Frankenstein earning its name lol x2 on 747 too, shouldn't be hard at all for you to sell your 833. I'm still kinda on the fence about it but so far I've been leaning towards sourcing a viper t56 and getting the complete adapting kit from whoever I forgot makes it haha

From what I remember of the Passon review in mopar muscle, they liked it and durability seemed good with some decently quick drag strip passes on the Dart they had it in. Seems like everyone over on fabo really love theirs so far too!

Sounds like inside yourself you have made up your mind and i have to agree with everyone here liking them... If we were closer and it wasn't CHRISTMAS i would be glad to talk about helping you with your 833, mine is a E-body and would love to put a original B-body in it, no matching numbers but more the way it should be... I wish you the best on it and im sure you will be happy with whatever the very final decision is... "Passon", Ummm, sometimes the name of things even with a car can boost the spirit! :)
