Ok Guys I need to know what I will have to change on my RR to make it work. I have a 70 RR with a 383 and a fresh air setup. I am wanting to put a 440 in it, however the 440 motor is about 1 inch taller. Can someone give me some feed back on what I will have to change to make the fresh air function?

Perhaps the motor mounts...

Remember: The Road Runner came with the 383, 440, 440 + 6-BBL and the 426 HEMI

I installed a 426 HEMI into my 1970 "383" Superbee

I think it is a R & R
A Remove and Replace
Simple

You will need the air grabber air cleaner base for a 440, 383 is different

The motor mounts are the same for all the big block wedge engines.....and what Moparparts said is your best bet.

My '70 road runner came with a 383 and air grabber too, I didn't change anything when I went to a 440. There was enough leeway in the rubber seal that everything still fit with the taller engine.

To be honest, I didn't even think about the height difference when I did that back in 1980, but it was never a problem.

I ran the 383 pieces as well on my RR after i installed a 440 as well but it was very close and with the price of air grabber boxes these days i would get the correct air cleaner base to be on the safe side

This is correct. I'd get the 440 base plate. I've been using a 383 base plate on my 440 and it's really tight and hood wouldn't close so I had to adjust the hood / hood bumper height up to the max to allow the hood to shut.

Maybe you'll get lucky like Photon though

I agree, find the base plate for a 440. Or you could chop (section) the 383 base plate so it sets an inch lower if you have a mig welder and the skills. I took that route once on a '69 set up.

X4 on the low block vs. raised block air cleaner bases.

Hey guys thanks for the advice. I am just going to find me a 70-72 440 base.

There is or was one for sale in the for sale section.
