Two barrel carb on my 383. If you pump the gas maybe flood the engine a little and I'm not talking pumping it till the bowel is empty or continuously cranking it,should you get and gas leaking out the shaft bushing for the butterflies? The guy who did the carb told me he was going to re-bush the shaft then told me when i picked up carb it didn't need it done, when i brought it to him originally at one time i must have flooded the engine and gas was really coming out those bores very bad so i thought it was worn and sucking vacuum then.. Thanks

At idle, spritz some WD-40 onto the shaft. If engine idles up, there is a big enough gap to cause an air leak. The next question would be how long until it leaks enough air to mess up the idle circuit. My thoughts: If it leaks, you might kindly ask the rebuilder to reconsider need for re-bushing. That's why I rebuild all of my own carbs. I'm just a bit too picky.

It's not uncommon to get some gas to capillary down the throttle shaft bore with a few shots of fuel, and the looser it is the more it will be noticed. Throttle shaft bores are never super tight to begin with even when new. It also depends where the accelerator pump discharges and how the fuel lands on the throttle shaft. This is not to say you don't have a problem so give it a good look over.

If it'll leak gas, it'll suck air. Needs to be fixed, one way or the other.

Two-barrel carbs are fairly cheap, too. Your's might be flat wore out, meaning the throttle body itself.
