I have a build thread for my car, but maybe some of you want to hear the Hughes Whiplash cam and did not realize I used it in my build. I have the roller cam, so I am using Hughes Engines' CNC'd roller rockers and their roller lifters, the rockers are 1.6 ratio.

Please forgive the metallic clanking noise. It is the unused heat riser assembly which came loose from being wired open. My new manifolds will not have this system, but I am running in with my original factory manifolds. So it is flapping about in this video. And now it is pouring down outside so I have not had the chance to wire it back up.

I posted this in my build thread too, but here is the first real fireup after getting timing close to being OK, but without properly setting up the roller rockers for correct preload on the lifters. This is straight out of my factory manifolds..So sounds is awesome!

Tek...Politics is always touchy between us but when it comes to our rides, there is a kindred spirit is there not? Nice sound out of that 383. And that flapper for the exhaust would drive me nuts also. I wired mine shut and so far so good. Just curious though as to why you choose the Whiplash cam from Hughes? I run their 2328 cam with 1.5 roller rockers and their hydraulic lifters. Here's a link to the 2nd motor I had to install. The first one was no good. It's from Sept 2013 but today it is far better and complete...cr8crshr/Tuck

I wanted the sound but not kill the cruiseability of the car. I'm never going to race this for real. I will build a charger for that. My Coronet is pretty rare with its options etc. so I have all my old parts, heads etc. so this can go back to stock if I ever sold it.

Whiplash sounds awesome and is a good stop light to stoplight cam.

Your car sounds great mate! I really like Hughes grinds.

I have a pair of the HP manifolds, they are on their way to me now, the heat flapper thing is not on them. So soon I will be rid of it. ;) And you only hear it when it is cold, the bi-metal still works so when it's hot it is all the way open and does not flap anymore.

Sounds great! Run a little stronger now?

Yes mate, it feels like a new car. Well my build got out of hand if I tell the truth. My budget was 3,000 euros, I blew past that and kept going..:) I think I have around 7,000 in parts, not counting small stuff, and then the work to screw it all together. But we did the engine, total rebuild on the 727, and then dropped an Eaton Truetrac into my 489 cased 8 3/4. Then rebuilt the front end with urethane bushes new ball joints etc. SO in all turned out to be a bigger build than I was originally planning.

Sounding good Tek, bet you are excited for the fast approaching cruising season.

Have fun with that new engine!

I've gone the non roller Whiplash cam in mine. Can not wait to do first start up!! These clips just make me more desperate to start it!

Sounds very nice! Don't let it idle too long until its fully broken in!!

It's a roller mate, and therefore NO break in for the cam. Plus, these are videos from a few days back..I have over 250 KM on this engine now! I just cannot stop driving it! ;)

I am! Cars are coming out more and more now. There was a big cruise last weekend, but we were still doing all the above..that's when I shot the straight out of manifolds video etc. SO I missed that first big cruise. But I am not planning on missing any more now.

You are going to love it mate. Please post vids for it once you are done.

Funny question I know but can I ask what air cleaner and element you are running with your holley (if the holley is still on) along with what kick down linkage you are using (if any). Awesome car and nice sounding engine.

HI,

It is an edelbrock air cleaner, using a drop base. I am not sure of the element size actually. My mate Janne put it on. The plan is to mod a spare STOCK base I have, weld the drop base into it, then for shows I will go back to running my stock factory air cleaner.

The Holley is a 750DP Ultra, and we are using LOKAR kickdown and throttle cables using the LOKAR linkage. I will take some close ups this weekend and post them if you like.

yes please do. i also plan to modify my factory air cleaner to disquise my Holley. Would love close ups of the kickdown and a review of how it performs for you on the road. thanks.

Sure. Yep I am going to disguise the Holley too, pretty easy since the factory air cleaner is much bigger than the one I run on the street. We adjusted my LOKAR kickdown cable so it does NOT work while running in the motor. But I am nearly done with that, so I will review it and take good close ups for you soon.

HP manifolds, when are they getting put on? They should clean up enough that you feel a big performance difference again, mid-range and the top end will turn on the most pulling way better than the low performance logs that are on it now. Just remember too to a port match too your gaskets too gain a little extra flow, here not headers. But then again you won't have the header headaches either.

How much longer before the Magnum Manifolds get bolted on? Should pick up and feel a little better once those logs are gone...

HI,

Should be next week. My heads are gasket matched and fully ported (so called stage 3) by Bruce Toth. He used the HP manifolds as reference. My car is 'museum registered' so headers were never an option for me. It has to look factory. :) Since it won prizes at 3 major shows over here last year, I had to make performance compromises in order to keep the stock look.

My car will also be in a US magazine soon. ;)

Walk around of my cars Whiplash idle. NO clanking now! ;)
