Getting started

I have found a lot of inspiration from watching the builds on here and decided to finally post what I've done so far. This is the car just after my friend and I bought it. The plan was to clean it up and make a profit. After about 3 days I decided to keep it and I bought out his half.

Once the tear down began I realized the trunk and a lot of the rear sheet metal would need replacing. There was a rear valance welded over top of a rusty valance.

Thanks GetX'd. I was always a Chevy guy but once I got my eyes on this car that changed. After a lot of work tearing out the old metal the trunk and rear start looking a lot better.

Charger parts can be hard to find but don't get discouraged. There's a lot of guys on here that are great resources to finding the places to get things from. I've found FBBO to be invaluable. Ask and there will be someone that knows where to get a part or how to do something. About 20k members I believe.

Looks like a good start, get the metal all set, replace/repair then por/prime, then jamb and start the fun... I normally get the car to that point, all jambed and then do the suspension, brakes, and wheels to get it rolling around. After that is done I don't do much until I have ALL of the parts, complete interior, driveline, etc... But then once you have everything and restored it all, putting it together is so much easier and goes really fast...

Thanks for the encouragement guys. After repairing the rear the quarter extensions (I think that's what they are called) were next. Anyways I hated the gap and the fact that they didn't line up well with the trunk or quarter panels. I remembering seeing someone do this but can't recall who deserves the credit. We (my friend helping throughout this build and I) used metal rod as an outline and filled in with sheet metal. I'm trying to find more pictures of what we did but not sure where they went. The last photo might give a clue as to what we did at the same time.

This is what the rear end looks like now. And yes it's all steel. We cut off the ends of the bumper and added metal to the ends. If anyone wants to get a rough idea of how we did it I can add more photos.

Very cool I'll watch this one . I miss my old 70 charger it.Didn't need as much as yours but I didn't feel it so I let it go and went with a newer one that I'm more into very coolkeep up the good work

Thanks. Lots of mods we are doing to the car. Keep in mind this is over quite some time but I'm finally getting around to posting some pics. We've been working on eliminating the drip rails. Here is the finished (mainly) passenger side. The rail that holds the weatherstripping is welded in and the rear corner is forward about an inch. Hopefully you can't tell. Again I would be happy to post extra pics if someone wants to see how it was done. You can also see that the door handle and lock have been eliminated.

Thanks guys. And keepat I hope you don't mind I'm going to use your idea for running lines in the inner fender. That's a great idea! I just picked this up not too long ago. 2007 5.7L Hemi from a Dodge Ram. The price was right...it was free.
