Hello,
I´m looking to get a set of heads now. But in order to save some weight, I will choose aluminum heads. No other reason really... Need to have exhaust ports in original iron casting location. Flow is not important here.
Reason I just not simply order a set of the MP #...779 heads, is I would like to hear your opinion about these heads. Any issues with these heads?
Btw, any other alu heads with exhaust port in stock location to choose from?
Casting? (In case I found a set of good used heads) I think way back some of the alu heads had less dependable castings...
Anyone ordered them complete with valves?
Maybe even I should choose the god ol´ iron heads? I mean saving some 50 lbs if it means I´m in to a lot of trouble, is not very smart...
Your input is much appreciated.
Thank you, Stefan

The number one issue with any aluiminum head is Valve seats. Many had recalls for seats coming out of the heads from improper installation. You will have to check with Mopar for any recalls. I fyou can afford it buy Stage 5 heads. Too many Used heads are beat to death. The only saving grace is aluminum heads can in many circumstances be repaired..

Go with the Edelbrock Victor Hemi head. They are a quality casting and flow plenty of air in cast form. Very nice head.

Thanks, but Edelbrock and Stage V heads do have raised exhaust ports, don´t they?

The Stage V pieces are available both ways. I am not familar with Edelbrock hemi castings as of now. The Stage V heads are the best on the market for street application. Mopar is currently having their heads casted by who the **** knows! Stage V heads are 1000.00 more than Mopars and will not fail! The dopes at chrysler outsource head casting to who ever is cheapest. if your going to play in Hemi land dont ask about price.

Well I just checked, and it seems you can ge them special order with low exhaust port.
I´m going the check some more in to these...
Thank you guys.

Thank you and absolutely, (never mentioned the price as an issue)
Good info on the MP heads. Seems they are out of question already :)
If I can have the Stage V Heads fit with original Hooker Headers and Cross Ram I´m going to be more than happy

This is true but it's a big port and a big valve so be forewarned if putting it on a small cubic inch hemi. I just dyno'd a 430" hemi with these heads. It made great power but wanted to turn 7500rpm to get it. These are better suited to stroker hemis.

Yes Thanks,
Well good thing I asked about alu heads. I thought MP had the castings sorted out... seems they haven´t. Also I did not know Stage V had heads with ports in stock location... never rally checked in to them since flow and big ports wasn´t what I was looking for...
Thank you guys.

The biggest issue with the MP heads is the pushrod tunnels aren't at the right angle/location and pushrods rub.

Hemi runner i looked at a pair of MP heads i have here and I dont see where the push rods rub. Any pictures???
Next time I have the valve covers off, I'll snap some pics. The indicative rub marks usually appear on the pushrod.

I learned from Ray barton guys a few tricks, one for street guys is use only solid rollers no Hydraulic roller cams. Also i am using Ed iskaderian Bronze bushed roller instead of needles and Stage 5 rockers. excessive for a street motor but these heads alwys have been a bit quirky for me. What d9ameter push rods are you running?? Are you using springs for side loading or lock rings?

Well, a good thing you bring up the valve train. I haven´t decided what to use yet.
Car is a 68 Barracuda w. a stick (SS/B) and 4.88 gears. Tires are 10.5X15" and 30" tall at the most.
Camshaft is Roller Crane R290 (.700 lift). I mention this for you to estimate rpm:s...
Also this racer will only see some 25, at the most, Nostalgia and Exhibition Races a year.
Would using the stock valve train be risky?
Half or so of the rockers are wide pad.

The lowest cup height lifters usually work the best. I usually run comp 829-16 but I had a new set of 892's so I used those this time. I'm running 3/8" heavy wall pushrods because my set of 7/16 were hitting the heads even with the 829 lifters. As for rockers, I run the RBRE.
