My son Bryce lives with me while he attends UCCS for Mechanical Engineering. I didn't hear from him until about 6:30 pm so I figured he was in a study session. Then I get a call. "Dad I bought a car."

He bought a 1985 Honda Accord for $247, the amount of cash he had in his account at the time. It needs an alternator but is solid besides that. We rounded up three car batteries and some flashlights and go to the scary part of town to get it. The young couple who owned it didn't want to crawl under it to fix it.

So here we were at 7:30 in an apartment complex with flashlights and it seemed every dog in the world is barking at us. We taped those little round and flat led flashlights to the front put in a charged battery and turned on the parking lights for the rear lights.

I'm not sure if we will get three blocks with the car running on battery power alone but we made it home, about 15 miles, with the car running great. We need to get out today and check it out but it's cold and rainy so no-go yet.

Bryce plans to fix the problem and flip it making a few hundred bucks. I just wanted you to know some kids still do the stupid stuff we did back in the day.

Bryce bought a hippied-out Volvo station wagon about 5 months ago. He painted the hood to look like the car from Death Proof and sold it right away.

I still do,stupid stuff - I learned it as a kid. Never got over it......

Oh c'mon . . . i've never done anything like that . . .

. . . uh this week ( yet ) . . .

But it's only mid week - plenty of time to go !

I have a 93 sunbird with a good engine, but needs a clutch if he interested! LOL

I once used a generator in the back of the truck to run a battery charger hooked to the battery to drive 500 miles home once. Didn't feel like changing it on the road. (pulling my race trailer.)

I took my generator to the scrap yard and used it to power a sawzall that we used to cut off a quarter patch.

It turns out the alternator tested good. Last night when we were rounding up batteries we went to our favorite auto parts store. The had some half-price used batteries that were dated from 2014. I said I'd probably buy one if they were 75% off. We tested the two old batteries and they were dead so we bought a 8-17 dated battery off the used shelf for the same money. $25.

It pays to have friends in the auto parts business. I bring them hamburgers from McD's often.

The wife use to bake cookies for the service and sales guys when ever the car needed service. They would pick it up and deliver when done. Plus leave a car for her to drive. We still take in cookies occasionally.

Got a call from my son last night. Bought a new style charger cheap-needs a motor and dad to go haul it home. Getting a junk yard motor and send it down the road. He has a serious itch for a 70 challenger and plans to flip cars til he gets one! Who says the hobby is dying??not around here!!
