Throttle/Carb sticking 2bbl 318 LA 70 Coronet

Frank: The throttle cable has two parts. The inner cable itself and the casing that houses it.

Pretty sure I remember having a 318 many years ago that something up top wth the accelerator pump linkage was sticking causing a similar issue. Take a look.
Doug

Here's the sleeve I mentioned earlier. I've seen a few people not have the correct cable and actually clamp down onto the housing instead of this sleeve.
Also included some other images that may clarify a couple things.

Thanks Doug it's coming back now about acc pump. The screw at center pivot of pump arm can get corroded up and stick. Maybe that's what you remember? There's a shoulder on the screw that the arm pivots on.

So many good suggestions! Sorry for my lack of activity I've been so wrapped up in school the old girl has been sitting in the garage. I'm going to get cracking this weekend and give updates! Thanks again everyone it helps a lot.

But then I tried to drive it down the street cause everything seemed okay and it accelerated again and I had to put it neutral and turn it off. This is what it looked like. The cable seems fine I made it loose and the carb still didn't budge so I'm assuming it's something up with the carb.

You know another thought. Last year my racecar throttle stuck intermittently. I finally traced it to the rear carb secondarys. Turns out the throttle plate screws worked about a 1/8 turn loose. This allowed the throttle plate to sit off centerand hold itself pen in the throttle bore just slightly.

And move that far right rusty red spring to the rear like one of the previous pics, or ur gonna be posting trans questions pretty soon.

Did you check throttle plates for looseness like dvw said? Sometimes the cause is that easy.

The plate is what's on the side connected to the cable right? It moves back but will not go forward at all now to where it's supposed to be. My friend has an old carter he's gonna give me and I'm gonna try to fix mine if not I'll get a new one.

Throttle plates are the round plates attached to throttle shaft. Easier checked if carb is off engine.

I just got a parts motor in it has that tiny little carb on it looked decent . If you want I will pull it apart if it is a rebuildable carb witch is assume it is I'll rebuild it and send it up to you . The kit should be fairly cheap bid guess $12-15 bucks plus shipping maybe another $10 bucks so say $25 or so ,I know autozone sells the carb new rebuilt for around $200-$300 it's up to you I would do a quad swap I have a spare intake and two eld carbs I can rebuild one of them if your interested in that route but shipping might he high on that one since the intake is heavy p.m. me if you need my help

Yeah thats my next step. Disconnected the throttle cable and cleaned the carb with everything but it just won't move forward, it's way too high. Don't worry I fixed the transmission spring shortly after taking the photo, thanks for the tip.
