I've been helping the neighbor kid get his '71 chevelle going (I know ugh) he had the 350 built for 350-400 hp and is running a 750 demon carb. After going through the steps trying to correct an overly rich idle we took the carb apart and found one of the primary idle air bleed passages did not let carb cleaner or compressed air blow freely out the other end like on all the other passages (which can't be helping get air into the mix)...I suspect a shaving or casting material may be lodged in there (as has been reported with some older demons) I've heard of using fine wire like guitar string but never had to do it, is this safe? Don't wanna put scratches in there. Or other methods? Thanks!

If the port is a straight shot, sure, but use solid wire just under the hole size.

If it's NOT a straight shot, it was drilled from two different angles. Have to feed the wire from both ends, to the turn.

sometimes you can use an air nozzle and try blowing it out ? of course being careful not to blow it out of your hands.

Pull the carb off, remove the metering block and blow through the face with some carb cleaner and air. If not you will need a tiny pin drill. Being an idle air bleed it’s probably somewhere between .050-075 in size so start with something smaller than that.

Air and cleaner spray was a no-go, thanks guys for confirming..that makes me feel better about using a micro drillbit

Ok the after-action report.....reamed all main body idle bleed holes (by hand only) with a small bit and flushed thoroughly, I felt some little pieces of material break loose. Checked all other passages. Flushed everything out too since I was there and reassembled and installed...with the settings not touched from before it was so lean on the mixture now it barely ran. Bingo!..Re-tuned it and it's all good now, he's got a nice steady vacuum and idle with the 4-corner screws at about 1-1/8 turns out. Before it was idling pretty rich with them barely at 3/4 turn, (any less it would start to die. Any more, vacuum and idle quality would drop fast). All good now, I told the kid don't ever talk bad about Mopar guys from now on! Thanks again for your input guys:thumbsup:
