Hey all,

I am at the point of ordering some new catwhiskers to replace them on my '69 Coronet hardtop.
I wonder how these are secured inside the door frame and how to remove these?
By looking at the pictures it appears these are just pressed in from the top?
Don't want to damage anything when trying to remove these, so i stopped it and better ask someone who has done this before.

Yes they are pressed in from the top, but the old ones can be a pain the remove. I always end up mangling the ones I take out, I use a scribe to try and get under the little tabs and pull up. Some of them will pop right up and others will be a bitch....

On the 68 to 70 Dodge and Plymouth B-Bodies the exterior felts are held in place with clips with three "fingers" that grasp the panel in which the felts attach. I would first place several strips of heavy masking tape along the top of the panels if the car has already been painted. If the car is going to be painted, then it is not necessary. Next, remove the inner door panels and roll the glass up as in the closed position. This gives you the opportunity to reach up into the cavity of the door / quarter panel to remove the felts. I use a flat blade similar to a paint scraper. Placing the blade under the fingers, you will pry away from the body to open up the fingers so that they are not biting into the panel. These clips are tempered steel and are very stiff, so it takes a bit to open them up. Once the clips have been sprung open, roll the glass back down and simply rock the felt out and away from the panel. To install, simply align the correct felt for the panel and gently push into place.

The inner felts for the quarter glass was originally attached with staples which we provide in out kits. But due to the work involved in using the staples, some of our customers will use a number 6 screw or small pop rivet to attach the inners.

Really an easy afternoon driveway job for most.

When people say cat whiskers this what I think of.

Basically the same process. The 66-67 B-Bodies used the same clips that were used in the 66 to 70 B-Body hood to cowl seals.

Thx for the reply's.
So, once these clips are free, i can just pry it upwards till it pops out.
Good tip on the masking tape!

That would be correct. You only need for them to be loose on each clip location and then you can wiggle them out with little to no problem. It is easier if the glass is not in the door, but it is not worth removing the glass just for replacing the felts.

Thx, i will need to adjust the glass as well as it does not line up properly with the roof rail weather strip so i will have to remove the door liner and get in there anyway.

If you do not have a factory service manual, you can reference one from the website, www.mymopar.com. It will give you some insight into the process, but it is more of a trial and error situation and can be quite an adventure. When it gets frustrating, walk away and come back to later on.
