I recently began working on a barn find 1967 Satellite with a 383 and am slowly working my way back to getting the car running. I replaced the entire fuel supply system besides the carburetor thus far. After cleaning the plugs, I attempted to start the car with no luck, however the car was getting fuel and turning over so I recently purchased a new coil, plugs and plug wires and all the other goodies to go with the ignition system, after installing the coil and plug wires, I figured I would try and start, but now the car won’t even turn over at all. With the positive battery terminal disconnected I am able to charge the battery to full but after reconnecting the terminal the battery is instantly drained and I am not able to even get the car to turn over with a battery box trying to jump it. The new coil is from napa and says on the exterior of the coil “external resistor required 12v”, I figured the stock resistor would suffice but maybe not. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, I’m not really sure what to do with it at this point.

umm so just a quick update, I turned the wire going from the coil the the distributor around and it is completely fine now, I’m not really sure what the heck has happened but I have a car that will turn over again soo I’ll take it.

Yep, the coil (wires) have a positive and a negative post. Good luck with your project !
