1/2 mile race: Ford GT vs Hellcat Demon

I wonder if Dodge would have any luck with forcing the Ford to add weight like the Ford and Chebbie guys did in NHRA against an already heavier car. It is probably 1500# difference. Put the Demon drive train in a Viper and see how it turns out.

I’ll take the Cat. Bang for buck.

How about dollar for dollar.

When I had my 2012 Corvette, I did the wanna go fast events. They are good fun and well run. My vette was built with a bigger cam, headers, centrifugal supercharger, meth injection, and carbon twin disc clutch. It put down 671 HP to the wheels. It ran 165 in the half mile...for a fraction of what that Ford GT ran.

Here is a vid of a run. Check out how much the tire grows at speed! Really freaked me out the first time I saw this video!!! Jumpt to 6:30 in the video to see the run.

Demon....840 hp/770 lbs tq.
Ford........647 hp/550 lbs tq.

Ford GT $385,000 base price, $595 per/Hp
mandatory 2 years agreement to not sale
647hp 3000#'s (I'm sure it much lighter than that, just for comparison sake)
4.63 hp per #

Demon $81,000 base price, $96.00 per hp
& $1 per option, so fully opt.'d $81,005 total
840h, 4500#'s loaded with all options
(1500#'s heavier I'm sure it's not that heavy either, but for comparison sake)
5.35 hp per #, still has more HP per pound

(Demon $ for $ comparison, is one hell of a bargain, you can buy 4.75 Demon's for the price of 1 Ford GT)

the launch was the difference, in that video
GT got him out of the hole & stayed there the whole way
never really gaining any ground or speed

The Wanna Go Fast events don't score by first to finish, only by speed at the finish line! Did the vid state the speed the Demon was going at the Finish?

yeah the guy was blabbering about it
I don't remember what he said,
IIRC best was 168 (?) for the GT
it was within a one or couple MPH thou

These events are also done on unprepped airstrips. The racing surface is dirty, dusty, and traction is very limited. Depending on which of these cars has better traction management systems is also skewing the numbers some from the true potential. This is why the AWD cars rule these events.

No excuse. GT great, albeit expensive car. And will be worth 7 figures easy in the near future. That said, I guess given the initial cost and extreme limitations on ownership I would gladly take 2 Demons, throw a tube chassis under one, carbon fiber body, proper roll cage, put a hellephant in the engine bay and still have change left over for fun in the sun! Ever notice when these comparisons are done it is always the Demon that is used as the car to beat? That to me states volumes about the respect this car brings....no matter the results of the comparison. In the end there will always be something faster, quicker, or better handling in the future. Just the way it goes, but in the mean time the Demon always does a credible job of holding its own!

did anyone see the new Gear Top,erm cough cough Grand Tour?

the street racing parts was Very cool, over by the abandoned factories in detroit.
i was impressed by the mustang too, with a 300hp disadvantage to the camaro,
it still was usually within a car length at the line.
plus, this was much more realistic,as in daily driving, stoplight to stoplight.

i was...Really....looking forwards to the demon drag race,
until Hammond started pulling things off the car and swapping them out...
at which point i lost interest...it took him an hour to prep the car for a drag race??...narf.

An extra $300,000 for 6/10 of a mile per hour according to thier time slips...Both cool cars but the price range makes the comparison apples to steak...
